Pioli criticises Milan forward Leao: “He absolutely must do more”

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli has admitted that he ‘expects more’ from Rafael Leao after another disappointing display against Lazio.

The 20-year-old arrived from Lille earlier in the summer for a fee of €28m, and scored his first goal for the club during the 3-1 defeat to Fiorentina last month.

A number of outlets then reported that Barcelona are keen on the idea of signing Leao to replace the ageing Luis Suarez, however since then the Portugal U21 international’s form has suffered.

He came off the bench against Lazio at San Siro on Sunday night as Pioli pushed for a second goal, going up front with Krzysztof Piatek, but Leao was largely ineffectual.

Pioli spoke after the game about Leao’s contribution and admitted he has not been please so far with what the forward has offered.

“I expected more from him, his entry had to give us one-on-one situations and breakthroughs,” he said, as per La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“He is a boy with great potential but he absolutely must do more. The contribution that he gave to the team today is not up to his potential.”
