Pioli prepares for first derby without Ibrahimovic – his record with the Swede

Zlatan Ibrahimovic will miss out on the Derby Della Madonnina this evening as his Achilles is still troubling him. This means that Stefano Pioli will start Olivier Giroud and it’s the first time without the Swede in a derby.

Ibrahimovic might have missed quite a few games due to injuries in the last few years, but he has always been there for the derbies. It’s the game he lives for and it’s certainly a blow for Milan that he isn’t available.

As was confirmed by Pioli during his presser yesterday, it’s the first time he will be without Ibrahimovic in a derby. Giroud will be the man up front instead, as mentioned, looking to shine and continue his journey towards double figures (six goals currently).

Pioli’s derby record, with Milan that is, is the following: 1W, 1D, 3L. The win came in the 2020/21 season when Ibrahimovic scored a brace, securing a 2-1 win for the Rossoneri.
