While AC Milan have struggled lately, it has been the opposite for Inter and history seems to be repeating itself. Last season, as we know, the Rossoneri were the better side at the start but were then leapfrogged by their rivals.
Inter played against Salernitana last night and managed to win by an impressive scoreline of 5-0. This puts them four points ahead of Milan, who will face Napoli tomorrow and hope to create a small gap to third place (Atalanta currently losing).
Of course, there are many games still to be played and the Scudetto race will not be decided now. During his presser earlier today, Pioli was asked if he’s worried about the great form of Inter.
“Inter running away with it? I don’t think we can talk about that yet. I don’t think league titles are won in December. Last year we were in the lead for a long time, then we know how it ended. We have to aim to do better than last year. The first year we scored 66 points, the second year 79 points and the goal is to do better, especially in the second half,” he said as cited by MilanNews.
Hopefully, Milan will claim all three points tomorrow and thus regain some confidence. Then, on Wednesday, they will face Empoli in what really is a must-win game ahead of the Christmas break.
