Pioli provides new update on Ibrahimovic: “We have to wait a little longer”

By Isak Möller -

In the game against Juventus, Zlatan Ibrahimovic sustained an injury and he’s yet to make it back. The derby seemed to be a realistic return initially but that wasn’t the case at all for the Swede.

The first tests ruled out any damage to his Achilles but confirmed that he’s suffering from inflammation. This kept him out of action for the games against Inter and Lazio, with more games on the sidelines to be expected.

During today’s press conference (read here), Stefano Pioli was asked about the condition of the 40-year-old. He confirmed that he will miss the game against Sampdoria tomorrow but didn’t rule out a return for the Salernitana game.

“Now Olivier is well physically and mentally, the important thing is that the team continues to play an attacking game. Zlatan is still working aside, we have to wait a little longer: let’s see in the next few days,” he stated.

Given the recent explosion of Olivier Giroud, with four goals in two games, Milan haven’t exactly missed Ibrahimovic but it’s still important to have him available. He’s a leader on and off the pitch, most likely making his presence felt even in the stands.
