Pioli: “We deserve to have more points; no to three-man defence”

After the disappointing loss against Juventus this evening, Stefano Pioli spoke about his side’s performance in an interview with Sky Italia (via MilanNews.it). Compared to previous games, Milan actually put in a positive display.

The Rossoneri were on par with the Bianconeri until the 77th minute, as Dybala combined with Higuain to fool Romagnoli at the back. Had things gone their way, Pioli’s men could have even got the three points this evening.

“Our performance was on par with the opponents, if not even more. It’s clear that if you don’t score, a team like Juventus will be able to take advantage of this. It’s a pity because the boys put in an important performance,” he began.

The manager was also asked about potentially using a three-man defence, as rumours suggested that he would make the switch for this game. However, he made it very clear that they intend to continue with four at the back.

“It’s not easy to face Juventus but we did well. We had a great opportunity, a draw wouldn’t have changed the standings, but it would’ve helped the morale of a young team. Threw-man defence? I don’t think so at the moment.

“Games are decided in the penalty area, but it’s important to create. We’re not in a great moment but the boys have shown that they believe. The winning jab was missing. The points we have are less than expected, and less than what we deserve,” he concluded.

All in all, Milan showed good signs this evening, although it wasn’t enough for a draw in the end. That said, they finally have something positive to build on, which hopefully can be an incentive for the game against Napoli.
