Player Ratings: AC Milan 2-1 Lazio

By Ahmed Bdair -

STARTING XI

DONNARUMMA (7): We’ve definitely seen finer performances from the Milan shot-stopper as he probably could’ve done better for the goal, but he later on redeemed himself with a match-winning save from a close-range Milnkovic Savic header to keep the score at 2-1.

CALABRIA (9) MOTM: Quite possibly the finest game the young Italian fullback has had in a Milan shirt. He marshaled the right hand side both defensively and offensively, also providing the assist for the second goal.

He then went one better, again putting in a phenomenal defensive outing on the left flank after switching sides to accommodate substitute Abate. He had 7 tackles on the day, 5 more than anyone else on the pitch.

BONUCCI (7): Yet another confident display from the captain. Helped start numerous attacks with his pinpoint passes while keeping it simple and compact at the back.

ROMAGNOLI (7): Our most consistent defender this season continues his great run of form. Putting in assured performance after another.

ANTONELLI (5): Gave everything he could but unfortunately it’s clear injuries and lack of game time have taken their toll on the former Italian international. Was at fault for the goal after being caught ball watching and leaving Marusic in acres of space.

KESSIE (6.5): A good performance on both sides of the ball. Another who has immensely improved under Gattuso. He’s also starting to cut out the hastiness in his game, making him much more valuable on the counter-attack.

BIGLIA (6): Not his worst game but no where near what he has shown in the past. Still gets dispossessed very lazily when he blindsided.

BONAVENTURA (7.5): Grabbed the winner with a great header capping off a very good performance. Starting to look more and more like the Bonaventura of last season.

SUSO (5.5): Suffering from a loss of form at the moment, he struggled again in this game. Though he almost provided a delicious assist to Andre Silva in the final phases of the game.

CUTRONE (8): Scored the opener off a great set-piece and was consistent in his hold up play. Rarely ever lost the ball and gave everyone around him a platform to succeed while remaining a goal threat himself.

CALHANOGLU (8.5): Undoubtedly the finest league performance in a Milan shirt for the Turkish international who showed exactly what the management saw in him to splash the cash. Combined his trickery with exquisite technique and added a wonderful assist for the first goal. Could’ve also had one or two goals of his own.

SUBSTITUTIONS

ABATE (7): Came in for Antonelli and exuded a lot of energy and experience. Just what the team needed as Antonelli began to fade away.

SILVA (5.5): Came on for an injured Cutrone, had some nice moments and runs but was unable to hold the ball up when we needed it most in the dying minutes.

BORINI (N/A): Came on for Suso, didn’t have too much time to really affect the game but was his usual energetic self.

MANAGER

GATTUSO (8): Put together a very big performance against one of the hottest teams in the league right now and against the much-lauded Simone Inzaghi. The team came out strong and comfortably dominated Lazio for 60 minutes. He continues to bring the best out of several players namely Calabria and Kessie. A promising spark for the young manager.

  1. I can’t understand how you always rate Biglia so bad !
He was one of our best players , he reminds me of Buskets
They are both their team’s gear but they still are unnoticed
Just focus on Biglia and how he controles the game and creates spaces for the others !
otherwise , I love your analysis , keep up the good work
    FORZA MILAN <3
