Player Ratings: Spezia 2-0 AC Milan – Only three players pass in shocking performance

By Isak Möller -

Milan failed to take advantage of Juventus’ loss to Napoli earlier today and the fact that Inter will face Lazio tomorrow, beaten by Spezia away from home. Down below are the (very low) player ratings of the Rossoneri.

Starting XI

Donnarumma (6): The goalkeeper couldn’t do much about the goals and made a few good stops to deny the home side any more goals. Tough night for him as he didn’t get much help from his teammates.

Dalot (4): Looked alright at the back for the most part but caused the free-kick that Spezia scored the second through. Besides a few long balls, he didn’t add anything to the attacking phase either.

Kjaer (5): The Dane was solid in defence as always and also tried to set up the attack when the midfielders didn’t do their job. Went out early in the second half, presumably because he has just returned from injury.

Romagnoli (4.5): Not good enough from the captain who looked okay on a few occasions but also missed several passes in the build-up. In addition, he gifted the second goal with a tackle just as Gigio was about to collect the ball.

Hernandez (4.5): The Frenchman tried very hard but the Spezia defence clearly had made it one of their priorities to mark him. He was often stopped, therefore, and he got more frustrated as the game went on.

Bennacer (4): Not his night with several passes squandered and multiple opportunities not taken. It’s clear he needs more time to regain his form as he just couldn’t find the right passes today. Milan need him to be a lot better.

Kessie (3.5): In the first half, Il Presidente was more or less invisible as Bennacer was left to do all the passing. The Ivorian didn’t do much in the defensive phase either as Spezia were allowed to drive time after time in ‘his space’.

Saelemaekers (4.5): He ran a lot on the pitch and had a few good initiatives but just couldn’t keep the ball at his feet most of the time. One of the better attackers, though, which says a lot about the display today.

Calhanoglu (4): We all know just how good the No.10 can be but his performance today was nowhere near that. Started with a few errors and eventually, he just wasn’t in the game anymore. Really surprising based on recent weeks.

Leao (4.5): Looked lively at the start of the game and was on the receiving end of a few long balls. However, he once again faded and it’s clear he needs to improve in this aspect.

Ibrahimovic (4): Yes, the Swede didn’t get that much service but he also didn’t win many duels at all. Even when Mandzukic came on, they failed to bring the ball down and he also misplaced more than one pass.

Substitutes

Mandzukic (N/A): Came on in the 64th minute but Milan just didn’t have enough attacks to rate him.

Meite (N/A): Spezia continued to hammer on as he came on (same minute as Mandzukic) so we didn’t see much of him.

Tomori (5.5): The best Milan player this evening as he came on and looked very secure in his duels. Often dispossessed the opponents and looked calm despite the situation.

Hauge (N/A): Didn’t play enough to get a rating.

Castillejo (N/A): Didn’t play enough to get a rating.

  1. How can you have Kessie worst than Bennacer? Bennacer failed to track the guy that scored the goal. With that track back we’d only be recovering one goal not two. He was clearly unfit. Also Dalot had to be the worst. Why Pioli didn’t bring on Kalulu is beyond me. Milan’s worst game by far for a year and some

  2. Kjaer: how he gets a 5, if he was solid? “Solid” does not correspond to a 5.

Tomori: if he was the best, he should’ve gotten more than Donnarumma.

  3. We only loose yesterday cuz there was no ANTE ANTE REBIC the sole helper of IBRA the twin of theo in attack, leao should moved to the other flank him and clabria will realy work things out, PIOLI WORK ON THAT or I will walk you out the DOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRRRRRRRR. PRONTO!
