Rangnick ‘admired’ by Ibrahimovic but reiterates he wants to create value ‘not buy it’

Ralf Rangnick seemed destined to become Milan’s new manager just a few months ago, but then Stefano Pioli’s side started to play great football. Subsequently, the Rossoneri decided to cancel the German’s arrival.

This also resulted in Zlatan Ibrahimovic renewing his contract, as the Swede was never in the plans of Rangnick. In an interview with Corriere Della Sera, as cited by MilanNews.it, the 62-year-old explained why he wasn’t keen on the 38-year-old for his Milan.

“I’m admired by the physical form of Ibrahimovic at 38. But my task has always been to create value, not buy it. The players should be sought when hardly anyone knows them and the more experienced ones, who are already in the club and have a convincing attitude and mentality, can still improve through the work of the staff,” he said.

Although his arrival at Milan was cancelled, Rangnick terminated his contract with RB Leipzig and is now without a club. It remains to be seen where he will end up, but the Premier League has seemingly always intrigued him.

Meanwhile, Pioli and Ibrahimovic are getting ready for the upcoming season, which will be very important indeed for Milan. Champions League now is a must and Paolo Maldini is working hard on the market to reinforce the squad.
