Repubblica: AC Milan owners enraged by Maldini’s comments

By Isak Möller -

In a recent interview with Sky Italia (via MilanNews.it), AC Milan director Paolo Maldini stated that he and Zvone Boban ‘will not wait 15 years’ for the Rossoneri to become a competitive club again.

However, as reported by today’s edition of La Repubblica (via MilanNews.it), these comments weren’t appreciated by the Milan owners. In fact, Paul and Gordon Singer are ‘enraged’ by Maldini’s words.

As the report continues, no official reaction has arrived from Elliott, though they are certainly not happy with their technical director. In the interview, Maldini put pressure on the club’s plan by stating that they can’t wait forever.

“If the idea is to be competitive again in fifteen years we will certainly not be the ones in charge of the sports management,” Maldini said.

Certainly, you can interpret this as a subtle message to Elliott and their long-term plan for the club. If this turns out to be the case, then you can understand the owners’ reactions to the statements.

In any case, a lot will depend on the outcome of this season, which hasn’t started well. Hopefully, Milan can get back to winning ways soon, as a top-four finish is looking more and more distant.
