Romano says Milan are ‘still leading’ race for Botman but warns Newcastle will ‘try again’

By Isak Möller -

Sven Botman has been heavily linked with AC Milan in the last few months and the Rossoneri directors have been in talks with the player’s agents. As a result of this, they are currently leading the race, a report claims.

Just two weeks ago, Milan had a meeting with the entourage of Botman (see here) and it’s clear that the Rossoneri consider him one of their top targets for the summer. It does make a lot of sense, seeing as Alessio Romagnoli might leave for free then.

According to the latest update from Fabrizio Romano, Milan are still in pole position when it comes to signing the Lille defender in the summer. However, he also warned that Newcastle haven’t given up in the race.

“AC Milan want Botman, met with his agent two weeks ago and they’re still leading the race for June – while Newcastle want to try again in the coming weeks,” he stated.

It remains to be seen where Botman will end up but a lot will most likely depend on the final months of the season. Newcastle are fighting to avoid relegation in the Premier League and Milan haven’t given up on Romagnoli’s renewal.

  1. Think it’s time to accept that he’s likely going to Newcastle now it looks like they’ll avoid relegation – I hope the club have their alternatives ready in case of the rejection.
