Romano: Milan star was ‘never close’ to joining Man Utd as contract renewal awaits

By Isak Möller -

In the last few months, Hakan Calhanoglu has been one of the most important players for Milan. The Turkish international amassed six goals and eight assists in the post-lockdown period of last season, attracting some interest.

In response to rumours linking the No.10 with Man Utd, Fabrizio Romano shared an update on the situation on his podcast (via RouteOneFootball). Calhanoglu, in fact, was never close to joining the English side despite his good form.

His contract with Milan will expire in 2021 and the Rossoneri are working on a renewal which, per Romano, remains the likely scenario. A move to the Premier League seems out of the question, therefore, as renewal talks continue.

The 26-year-old has struggled to reach top form since his injury a few weeks ago, putting in a few pale performances recently. Hopefully, he will find his groove and link-up with Zlatan Ibrahimovic once again, which was so successful.
