Run-off between Giroud and Rebic begins as Pioli evaluates Atalanta-Milan

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan will take on this Sunday evening and as Olivier Giroud has recovered from his muscle fatigue, Stefano Pioli will have to decide between him and Ante Rebic. A decision that perhaps is harder than you think.

Giroud was on fire for Milan during pre-season and the same can be said for Rebic, at least for some of the games. Just before the opener against Udinese, however, Giroud experienced muscle fatigue and the Croatian thus got the nod.

Rebic didn’t disappoint with a brace, leading the line for Milan in style and proving that he can be a key player for them this season. For the game against Atalanta, both will be available and that leaves Pioli with a tough decision.

Giroud is very experienced and only needs one or two chances to find the back of the net. Furthermore, he’s a great focal point for the attack with his hold-up play and strength, but the question is if this is what Milan need against Atalanta.

Rebic would bring more pace and skill to the game, able to cause issues for the Atalanta defenders by making runs in behind. Atalanta are an attacking side and there will surely be space for the attackers to run into, which could suit Rebic better than Giroud.

The battle between Giroud and Rebic is thus clear and it remains to be seen what decision Pioli will make. The feeling is that Rebic might have the upper hand, not just because he’s in great form but also because he fits that game better.

  1. Put Rebic on RW (back up – messias), Leao on LW (backup – salamankers) then Origi on CF (back up- giroud)

This Atalanta game is very tricky, we need speed, thats Atalanta weakness, there back line can not handle speedy attackers….

Leao – Origi – Rebic will run their defence to the pits.

  2. Play them both with Rebic as SS to Giroud, but the idea of
    Leao – Origi – Rebic
Would be awesome Pioli should try it one day

  3. Select both hot players and let us revenge Atalanta since they depleted Milan by 5:0 some years back. Forza Milan

  4. It’s no big thing for me ,it should be Olivier Giroud for me to start up front …He will score goals from only a few chances ,and he creates space for others more easily …Also Atalanta is much tougher opposition..
Olivier has great technical ability and reads the game so well ,he knows where to be at the right time ,this is a skill and not luck ..This is a big game ,and he will relish this ,start Olivier and we will win .

  5. The most in-form players mustn’t be halted! For me, I think Rebic should start on the left, Giroud as the striker, and Diaz/Charles on the right…. Leao can come on in the second half for Rebic or Charles…. There has to be continuity

      1. Rebic and giroud can not play together, it have never worked, it either it affects rebic or giroud.

I still maintain:. Leao-origi-rebic will riun all the defence in serie A, that is if pioli is ready to make the jump, I know he is taking it gradually though which is understandable

  6. A tough decision for Pioli but I suggest he sticks to the wining team. Rebic should start coz he frees space for the other players and he alternates with Leao. Anytime Rebic is in good shape and he starts we don’t lose matches.
    Rebic
Leao Diaz Mesias from the start then
    Giroud
Leao/Rebic Diaz/ CDK Mesias/Origi. They should all get some playing time and warm up into the season as we need to discipline Inter on 3-Sept

  7. They must play 4231
    Start with
    ——-Rebic——–
    Leao–brahim–mesias

Than 2nd half we bring in giroud, Charles and origi we will win the game.. never write lead of because of the first bad game we must start with rebic because he is in great form and giroud just recovered he can come on for the last 30minutes
