Serafini: Furlani wants Ibrahimovic to ‘act as a glue’ at Milan amid key flaw

By Isak Möller -

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been heavily linked with a return to AC Milan and the feeling is that it will materialise eventually. According to the MilanTV pundit Luca Serafini, Giorgio Furlani is pushing for the matter for one key reason.

It’s been a tough start to the season for Milan, after what looked like a very promising start. A plethora of injuries have made life difficult for Stefano Pioli, who now finds himself in a tough position. In fact, he could be sacked before the end of the season.

The MilanTV pundit and well-known journalist Luca Serafini was a guest on the radio show Tutti Convocati this afternoon. When asked about Ibrahimovic’s return, he stated that Furlani himself most likely is pushing for the return amid an obvious flaw.

“Ibrahimovic certainly wants an operational role. Furlani is one of the best portfolio managers in the world, and he suddenly found himself acting like Marotta. It’s definitely a flaw of the club. I believe it is Furlani himself who is looking for a figure who can act as a glue,” he stated.

It remains to be seen what will happen in the coming weeks. The game against Newcastle is important in so many ways, but above all financially. Milan made a lot of money from the competition last season and crashing out of the group stage would be far from ideal.

  1. Acting as a glue is one of the responsibilities of the head coach. If we have to hire another person to act as the glue that means the head coach has failed and thus he should no longer be the head coach.

    1. Wasn’t Boban alongside Maldini in Maldini’s first season as a technical director?
Must have needed a certain name next to him in order to attract players, like, let’s say, Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Zlatan himself has admitted that Boban got the deal done for his return to Milan.

      1. Oh man your Maldini phobia is worse than I thought. Let me put some more salt on that wound of yours since you want. Theo and Leao came explicitly because of Maldini.

      2. Hahahaha
Not saying that Maldini didn’t need help as a director especially in the early days but c’mon bro…he’s freaking Maldini…the name alone….how much is your hate for the greatest Rossoneri and one of the best players of all time?? It must be wild living in that world having to find some obscure reasoning to make a point against the legend.
Btw Maldini called Ibra first. He wanted him at Milan. Boban ended up doing the deal later on due to their shared Balkan culture. Nice try though

  2. In other words, he hasn’t earned the respect of the players. Well this is surprising, considering many sempremilan readers thought of him as the best thing since sliced bread.

  3. Needs to surround himself with respected people cause he’s nothing else than a spineless hypocrite and the team understands now what a backstabber he is.

  4. Let’s compare Furlani’s first 6 months in charge of market vs Maldini’s first 6 months.
Furlani spent 115 mil on transfers and Milan is currently 3rd, 29 pts. 9 points behind inter at 1st.
Maldini spent 90 mil on players like Theo, Leao, Bennacer, Krunic, Rebic, Duarte.
He also hired the genius Giampaolo.
Giampaolo gets fired at the beginning of October. Great hire.
Outside of Theo and Bennacer, the other new signings barely gave Milan anything.
Dec 22. Atalanta 5-0 Milan. Gasperini dancing.
“(CNN)AC Milan suffered its heaviest defeat in 21 years after losing 5-0 to Atalanta, marking a new low for a club that was once the dominant force in European football.”
Milan at that point is in 11th place with 21 points. 21 points behind inter and juve who had 42.
Great first 6 months under the greatest mam to walk the earth and the person who knows football more than anyone, compared to Furlani who doesn’t know anything about football besides being a fan.
January 2020 Zlatan Ibrahimovic enters and everything changes.
BTW the team that Maldini inherited finished 5th, 1 point behind Atalanta and inter in 3rd and 4th.
Furlani inherited a team that also finished 5th, 2 points behind juve and inter at 3rd &.4th.
Maldini inherited players like Donnarumma, Romagnoli, Conti, Calabria, Rodriguez, Borini, Castillejo, Hakan, Kessie, Bonnaventura, Paquetta, Suso, Andre Silva and Piatek, who in his 1st 6 months as a Milan striker under Gattuso had 11 goals in 21 games before Giampaolo ruined both him and Paqueta. That piatek would start over Giroud and Origi that Maldini left Milan with.
Furlani inherited Maignan, Theo, Leao, Bennacer, Tonali, Thiaw, Kalulu, Calabria, Florenzi, Saelemakers, Messias, Rebic, CDK , Origi Giroud.
The midfield and striker options after the end of 2018/19 season would start over the players Maldini Left Milan with.
Thiaw and Theo are the only upgrades in the defense.
Leao also being an upgrade over Suso but not by a lot production wise.
Maldini 1st 6 months were all time low , even though he inherited the same quality squad if not better.

    1. Your point is ruined by the first sentence. Maldini inherited a team full of average players and a financial situation that was catastrophic. Furlani inherited a scudetto-winning/UCL semifinalist team with an increased budget.

Anyway Furlani fights for 4th spot in Serie A. We’re over expectations now. Extend Pioli and sell another cornerstone player.

    2. Need I remind you that NONE of those players won Scudetto when Maldini arrived and he worked on a very tight budget to help elevate the team’s market value AND helped assembled the team who would then go on to win the title and reached CL SF.

Furlani worked with a lot more ease on the budgeting, more flexible salary cap, a well established squad whom had won the Scudetto. It should be easier to attract players of higher calibre. The backbone of the team should also be strong now, considering that they mostly are Scudetto winners now.

I don’t care if you hate Maldini, but please be objective for once, and start looking at things in a more neutral way. Most Maldini fans won’t mind praising all the things the new managements do, or criticizing what Maldini did wrong. But you literally just praise Furlani at every single chance you got and blasted Maldini at the same time.

Of course Maldini made a lot of mistakes too, he ain’t perfect, but you always seem to cherry pick all the negatives he did.

      Shame on you.

      Like literally, f-ck off.

      Sorry for my French.

      1. Exactly that. I don’t mind saying Maldini got Origi wrong (in combo with Moncada ofc) and a couple other transfers I didn’t like but I also give respect that the backbone and strength of the current team are players he signed…..then I can properly say oh well maybe Foolani got Pulisic right and also…. 🤔 Well let’s leave it at what so far lol 😂. But u get the point. The conversation never reaches that point because you have to deal with the bashing of Maldini first before you even get to actually critically assess what he did

    3. Oh man you are one of those crazy phobic conspiracy theorists with a room and walls filled with newspaper cutouts and doodles stringed all together in a bundle of nonsense. Do you wear a tin foil hat too? Anyway you forgot Maldini said there’s a five year plan to win Scudetto but he did it in three with close to no budget. They also got to semis in CL which was not even their target and with that he guaranteed extra income for the club. Which was not considered. So, he came and left the club in a lot better state then he inherited. And all this being a newcomer in the management role. By the way, tell me how long it took Sir Ferguson to win anything with United? 7 years. The rest is history. That’s what proper planing is and that’s how it’s done. This Gerry and his errand boy Foolani are glory hunters and knew most of fans will drool on the money splashing and players bought so they dismantled a winning team and a formula and wanted to impose their own flashy story. 130 million euros later, we are where we were before Maldini.

      1. Yea why he didn’t mention that last part?

After all the money spent to be …oh let’s see here…let me take out my shaming glasses….after 15 rounds compared to last season….to have 4 points less, won 1 game fewer, lost 2 games more, scored 3 goals less, concede 3 goals more..
        …but hey we’re more European. Ammi right? LMAO 😂 what a 🤡

    4. Nice try #not. Every day passing, it is getting harder and harder, right? Keep it up if it makes you feel well.

P.S. We’ve passed the point of reasonable talk really. If you find that Milan of 2019 is the same (at any level) as Milan of 2023, there is nothing further to say.

      1. Bro thinks 2019 Theo and 2023 Theo are the same.
He forgot Maldini inherited the likes of Laxalt, Rodriguez and just finished the prior season with the likes of Bertolacci, Jose Mauri, Montolivo, Strnic and co lol. Delusional much.
But he dug REALLY REALLY DEEP to put this out I’ll give him that 😂😂😂

    5. You need a much better education than the one you had if at all you did. Cuz your logic seem faulty! Besides, since you are so scared to even give yourself an identity, I wonder what part of the world you came from. To round things up, I believe if you in hindsight reflect on your opinion and meditate objectively on your motive and intents, you will see why you always make quite a lot of messy comments.

    6. This guy @ 🔴⚫️ is truly a clown LOL. Kid can’t live without talking about Maldini.

Are you @Boulden in disguise?? Or what was the name of that other dip$h*t that couldn’t stop talking about Maldini? Maldini must have banged his mom or something. Never experienced a fool so obsessed with another person. Get a life kid. MOVE ON. Sad life you live pal.

“Leao also being an upgrade over Suso but not by a lot production wise.” LOLOLOLOLO. You are a pure idiot. Ya Suso is definitely on the same level as Leao LMAO. Go to bed son, it’s past your bedtime.

      1. Suso played 153 games as a Milan player, scored 24 goals, and had 36 assists = 60 goal contributions in 153 games.
Leao has played 179 games for Milan scored 47 goals, and had 40 assists = 87 goal contributions.
Suso averaged a goal or assist every 2.5 games.
Leao averaged a goal or assist every 2 games.
Not by much compared to how one is hyped up as one of the best players in Europe and the other a slow one trick pony.
        Numbers don’t lie.

        1. So you rounded Leao’s number to whole number but Suso to 1 decimal place? Nice try attempting to do bad math but Im still around to give you the REAL calculation. I’ll assume u have the right figures so I’ll give u that olive branch. Based on your stats:
Leao 179/87= goal contribution every 1.85 games
          Suso 153/60 =2.55
          A difference of a solid 0.7.
Even if we normalize Suso’s stats to Leao, what you do is divide on a per game basis and multiply by Leao’s number.
Ie 60/153 x179 = 70 in other words if Suso’s trend in goal contribution extended to Leao’s 179 games, he’d have 70 goal contributions, and will be a full 17 goal contributions less than Leao. And that isn’t insignificant. Every which way you look at it, ur wrong.

Even your own conclusion is flawed. 2.5 is also massively better than 2.0.

          Nice try though 👍

    7. Ha
      Hahaha
      Hahahahaha
      Hahahahahahahahahahahaha
      Hahahahahahahahahahahahahabahahaha
      🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂🤣ROFLMAO
The mental gymnastics to even make that comparison
Oh man I needed a laugh today.

    8. You are only stating a few facts that suit your maldini biases. Maldini inherited a total mess. With hundreds of millions in debt, chaotic team and uefa restrictions that could fill a newspaper. In a record time he brought in scudetto and cl semis. Now the bankers ruined all that in 6 months, brings in 3 midfielders that share the same characteristics while spending $120 mil and thats way more that maldini could ever dream of. Yes he made a few mistakes along the way but whoa hasn’t? But he build a squad while balancing the budget.
GO COMMENT ON BASEBALL OR SOMETHING. OR TOULESSE IN FRANCE SINCE REDBIRD OWNS THAT.

  5. These ph0ny hollywood investors are so out of touch from reality.. they thought just one scouting stat software is gonna make a revolution in the entire world of “SOCCER” as if no one thought of it before.

As if teams in Europe live in caves still scared of sabretooth humping them and their grandmas in their sleep. lmfao.

Experience matters! and our little tapeworm is learning it the HARD way. We were UCL semifinalists.. with a squad that consisted of the likes of Saele, Messias, Rebic, Krunic.. lol But now.. we wont even make it to the top 6.

This club will be back to Elliot by the end of 24/25 season.
    MARK.
    MY.
    WORDS.

Cardinale is just another fly on Elliots net. Just like Li was. Li got away easy with only 350 mil loan. BUT THIS m0r0n is gonna get a whooping worth 1bn. lol Sad part is It’s us Milan fans who will go through banter era 2.0 for a few more years before Elliot takes the club back and brings Maldini back again.

  6. As long as Ibrahimovic is a consultant reporting directly to Cardinale then he will thrive with any assignment given to him. Please don’t trap him within the actual hierarchy where he has to play politics and work for promotion. He doesn’t fail. Put him directly under Cardinale and give him tasks and listen to his feedback.

  7. PLOT TWIST: What if Elliott sold to RedBird because they knew Gerry wouldn’t be able to repay the debt?

Elliott repossesses Milan after Gerry’s default AND sells the club THE SECOND TIME. This time to the likes of PIF, INVESTCORP, UAE… whatever.

That’s TWO massive payouts for Elliott.

    Briliant.

    1. I said that all along….smart business. Win win for Elliot. 600M loan at 7% interest and they hold a minority share. If they fail to repay they retake control for pennys on the dollar. Had they sold to Investcorp – no minority stake and no loan needed. Elliot aren’t stupid. It was a smart business decision on their part.

    2. Its not far fetched, that just could be the case. With all those trips in middle east looking for investors in a very very shady way is lind of suspicious. Anyways, the drama that keeps on giving.

    3. Bro that’s not even so far out there. Dude took a 7% loan during a time when money was literally free. And he’s the businessman lol (granted he’s had some “success” I’ll give him that). Now he has to beg for money while offering a rate of return higher than what we can never achieve. Well played Elliott.

    4. That’s what I also said. Elliott are a vulture fund and that’s their core business. Cardinale has roughly half a million in interests on his 600 million loan. That’s plain crazy to think he can repoay without a help. Or he can default and Elliott probably have someone else lined up. Hence their request to speed up the deadline date.

      1. Then God helps us all in that case.

Which other big club had 5 different owners in the last decade alone?

        Berlu -> Li -> Elliot -> Redbird -> 5th owner soon?

        1. I don’t think Elliott are fond of selling to Arabs or any of their relatives on the middle east because they have money and have no need for a vulture fund.

It could also be money lanudering that Elliott does with these muricans.

          1. If Elliott gets milan back, that’ll be almost 1 billion in profit. This time they surely sell it to some rich serious middle eastern. Or at least we hope.
