Sky: Pioli will decide between Kjaer and Thiaw for Genoa clash tomorrow

By Isak Möller -

Stefano Pioli has more or less decided AC Milan’s starting XI for the game against Genoa tomorrow. However, there is one battle at the back that the manager is yet to decide, a report claims.

The Rossoneri played just two days ago and have had just one proper training session ahead of tomorrow’s game. Some rotation is expected, therefore, and it seems Pioli has decided to start Alessandro Florenzi, Yacine Adli, Samuel Chukwueze and Noah Okafor.

According to Sky Italia, via @M4rkPhilips on Twitter, Pioli is still evaluating the centre-back pairing. Fikayo Tomori is certain to play from start but the manager is considering playing Simon Kjaer instead of Malick Thiaw, but the latter is ahead right now.

A decision will likely be made tomorrow. Given the defensive success as of late, it’s almost certain that he will go with the German but compared to the other positions, the battle has not been fully decided yet.

  1. Pioli please start playing the 4-2-3-1 and the 4-4-2 to Acmilan because of the champions league we need winning in the champions league please start playing musah in the advanced position as the attacking midfield with pulisic

    1. I think that’s terrible idea. The 4-3-3 has been largely effective, with better finishing Milan could easily have 2 cl wins. Musah likes to drift wide when advancing and really has played well in a mezzala role. He failed when he moved into a playmaker role against Dortmund and I doubt he’d add anything special as a number 10. In games where Pobega did play Milan’s midfield was quite dangerous aside from the inter fiasco. I think for this system to really take off Pioli needs a 9 that can finish and even create a goal or two. Until then results will ebb and flow with Giroud and Leao’s finishing.

      1. in this game with musah and reijndeers needed for 90 min with no backup. they were instructed not to go forward too much to conserve energy (although musah still ended up covering more ground than anyone on the pitch), while pageba an Theo were used more often to stretch the defense (more like the roles given in a 4 2 3 1. this is clear from their game maps. when was musah moved to a playmaker roll?

They rate the worst finishing in the following order:
        Giroud
        Pobega
        Pulisic
        Chuk
        Theo
        Reijneers

On second watch its crazy the opportunities created did not result in at least one goal.
