SM: Ibrahimovic, Rangnick and a Mister X – What’s behind the rupture between Boban and Elliott

By Vito Angele -

At Casa Milan, war has broken out. A situation that threatens to change the positive climate that had surrounded the team after the arrival of Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Our correspondent Vito Angele has you covered with the latest updates.

YOUNG AND EXPERIENCED PLAYERS – THE MAIN KNOT

The main knot of the difficult relationship between Boban, Maldini and Gazidis is certainly the youth project. The owners had decided, only to change the plans a little later, to focus exclusively on young players. The poor start to the season proved Boban and Maldini right, and thus they managed to sign Ibrahimovic.

The arrival of Zlatan has given new life to the environment, bringing out the best of players such as Rebic and Castillejo, among other things. Precisely for this reason, Boban immediately asked loud and clear to discuss the renewal of the 38-year-old.

However, there has been no response from Elliott so far on the matter. Meanwhile, Maldini and Boban continue to support the idea of a project based on a mix of young and experienced players.

That is why the duo wouldn’t shut down the idea of another two experienced players, such as Thiago Silva and Modric, for example. With the first, there have been contacts in the last month. However, from the management there is, so far, no thoughts on the market front.

Among other things, as Boban himself made clear, there is still no clarity on future plans in this regard, starting with the budget for the next year. Therefore, it’s impossible for the directors to focus on the expiring players.

Boban would have liked to conclude a signing in these months, but Elliott have blocked everything, postponing market talks until the end of the season. There is also a disagreement on the renewal of Bonaventura, which the directors at least want to evaluate together with his agent.

THE MANAGER DILEMMA, WHAT SPARKED THE FIRE

The final nail in the coffin was certainly the contacts with Rangnick, carried out by Gazidis without Boban and Maldini knowing anything. This is something that the Croatian director didn’t appreciate at all.

It’s something that can’t be accepted especially since just days ago, it was claimed that they had a shared plan of total unity with the rest of the management. Furthermore, the contacts with Rangnick also means Boban and Maldini could be on the brink.

All this, as can’t be stressed enough, right in the middle of an ongoing season with goals still to be achieved by the team. Among other things, there is no unity when it comes to deciding the next manager, who won’t be Pioli.

Boban and Maldini want to decide at the end of the season, with Pioli who, by the way, would at least be present (out of fairness) on the list of possible names for the bench, such as Allegri, Spalletti and Gasperini.

AND WHAT HAPPENS NOW?

The situation is likely to get out of hand. There will probably a summit in the coming days, organized by Elliott, to clarify the situation. In the list of unsatisfied there is also Mino Raiola, who would like to discuss situations relating to his clients as soon as possible.

On one side, there is Maldini, Boban and also Raiola with Ibrahimovic. On the other, Gazidis and the owners have something else in mind, the umpteenth revolution. What’s the point?
