Igli Tare’s name emerged relatively recently in the sporting director picture for AC Milan, and it seems that he may be the favourite to be the chosen candidate.
With Milan needing a reset, from top to bottom, hiring a new sporting director is needed, especially with Geoffrey Moncada’s contract expiring. Earlier in the season, it was reported that the Frenchman’s future would be judged on this campaign, and so there are no shocks that the club are looking elsewhere.
A few names have swirled around the post, including Andrea Berta, who was seemingly the preference, however, the club are set to seemingly settle on Tare.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, via Milan News, the Albanian had a positive meeting in London on Friday afternoon with Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Gerry Cardinale to become the new sporting director. Should this happen, Moncada would, surprisingly, ‘remain with him’ as the pair have ‘excellent relations’.
At this moment, it seems that Fabio Paratici sits behind him in second, but that does not necessarily mean that a decision has been made up. However, as things stand, it certainly seems it will take a lot to change that ranking.
Considering how much frustration there has been over the management’s choices this season, it will be interesting to see how Tare is supported, given those who are largely behind his potential appointment have been viewed of late.
Another none Italian, another Ibra crony, and Moncada stays.
Even the rebuild is sh*t
I get Fonseca appoimtment flashbacks from this.
Well, I guess if you want 4th place then hire a 4th place (at best) sporting director.
It worked so well with the 4th place coach, right?
Until Cardinale leaves, all hope is lost.
Yeah but some of this is going to be on the ownership anyway. Players cost money and if you’re not going to invest, it doesn’t matter who the DS is. You could bring in Txiki Begiristain, and if you give him a couple of euros and a bag of peanuts to sign players, he’s going to bring you a vagrant and a squirrel.
lmao the truth right here
You want truths?
Can you handle the truth?
Then firstly this football club has been handled like a garage sale.
I’d like to ask what was that ugly shirt the players where wearing? Portugal or Belgian shirt not Milan!
The mistake of Maldini sacking shows how off course this management are!
Happy for you, that’s the only game they were using the jersey in collaboration with Off-White.
If money is tight then you probably don’t want 10 of your former youth players playing for clubs above you in the table.
Milan could’ve solved their midfield problems for free 10 years ago but instead they thought they were too good for Cristante and Locatelli who both ended up captaining their direct rivals.
If this club is ever to get back on track (with or without money) it needs to stop repeating the same mistakes over and over again.
I am fed up of this comments. You just want the management to spend, spend and spend. You wanna win just by spending money, when there is no more money, you want the management to sell to someone with more money, so you can buy your success without any hard work.
You want the best sporting director (with immense salary), the best coach (with tripple or quadruple salary of pioli and others), you want multiple stars for 40 million…. This is not ManCity, we cannot afford everything, but no fan should complain about the fact that management cannot afford something, that is not always their misstake.
For Example Gimenez, player that was bought just to silence fans, but till now has impact equal to Jovic. I would gladly support the management that will have attack of hard working guys like Morata, Jovic, Abraham and Camarda, rather than fans that want to have Gimenez, Zirkzee etc. just because the only criteria they are looking at is the price tag, and higher equals better.
Actually I would just spend big on the sporting director and a good coach, and let them work in peace.
There are plenty of examples of clubs that built great, overachieving team using this approach.
Just look at how many players Atalanta used in the past 10 years. They have rebuilt successfully multiple times, without spending more money than us on playerd.
In my opinion it’s not at all about expensive players. Even Pioli won the title with Krunic, Diaz, Saelemaekers, Kalulu etc.
All I wanted was a coach than could take us to the next level after Pioli. I’m sorry, but the guy who had the same results at Lille as any other coach won’t cut it. Same as a guy who won the title with Porto, there are plenty.
Just give one great manager whatever salary he needs, instead of rushing to buy 20 players in desperation.
Yes, you’re right. The fans are just as bad as the team. They show zero understanding of football and ignore facts, such as the heavy investment and how bad things were in Maldini’s last season, because it suits their agenda.
Yep
Spending 35 to 40 millions net a transfer window is a heavy investment? Winter investments were almost completely covered by outgoing players and CL money earned until then.
This statement is almost as bad as when you said they cannot spend cause they only booked 4,5 million profit.
And talking about bad fans, where are you Gerryboy stooges after the match? I don’t see you around much. You just come and badmouth anyone who doesn’t share the view and opinion of your greaseball yank.
“Winter investments were almost completely covered by outgoing players and CL money earned until then. ”
That’s the healthy way of doing business. Imagine Milan doing what Barca is doing. They would be relegated to Serie D and given a lifetime-ban on all European contests.
Thanks, you’re saying the truth may God bless you.
Now there’s a lot of stars but no motivational spirit, but then no top stars but there’s fighting and motivational spirit, I think we need someone like Maldini to speak to this players 👂 ear,
No matter what, MILAN 4 LIFE
well you wouldnt play hard when you know the people that pay you dont care about the club, once they get their bag they become mediocre
Don’t know if he’s what we need and only time will tell. But he’s at least an experienced SD that we need so badly.
I just hope he’ll be able to work in this chaos where everyone is sharping their backstabbing knives and walk with a target on their backs.
This club’s environment is toxic and atmosphere is badly poisoned.
Also
“the Albanian had a positive meeting in London on Friday afternoon with Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Gerry Cardinale to become the new sporting director”
That’s how much this club means to our owner. He has the time to go to London for a meeting but cannot come to Milano and visit his club and his team in this dark times. And no it could not be Teams meeting or else Ibra wouldn’t need to travel to London.
yeah i got you. but why in london? among other things, dude probably to coward to step his foot in milan. remember they fled through the backdoor once.
Elliot office are in london while Red bird home base in new york. This already show who was the real owner and who was just little puppet. After RB fail to pay their debt, ACM will be owned again by the real owner
They just keep making this team non italian. Please stop supporting this “fans”. Send a message to management finally. We will now add Eastern Europeans to the team and still no italians.
Get ibra out 1st. There shouldn’t be a “god” who gets into the picture and disrupt the flow
What would it take me to come back?
(Nobody asked or cares)
It’s difficult to write this as if I set expectations ‘too high’ it will only prolong my alienation but the following might help:
– Gabbia being appointed club captain;
– some vague plan to integrate youth players;
– some semblance of a transfer strategy;
– a coach I can get behind who doesn’t hate Italians;
– keeping whatever are the last remnants of the Pioli squad that provided the platform for the ‘good times’.
I frankly couldn’t care about results or even the number of Italians.
The club just needs an identity, and some semblance of respect for those who have gone before.
You are a Milan fan just in a tiff with the current situation. Most of us would like to see more Italians in the squad and I’m not even Italian but I get the sentiment. You have to realize these players aren’t cheap and always want more money like Dollarrama and Tonali so they will move on Italian or not.
The academy players are hard to judge. For example, I think Simic will become a good player but he wanted playing time now so management sold him. So I won’t come back in 3 years saying why did we sell him and now he’s class what a stupid club. The club seems to fancy our young Italian striker so hope is still there for him. The former players now captains at our rivals would not be the same players if they had stayed. Do you think Locatelli would have beaten out Tonali, Kessie, or old Bennacer? Different situations work better for each player (by the way I like Locatelli too but I’m not going to support Juve).
Our transfer policy does need to be revamped but Gerry did purchase Santi (I wanted Lucca) surpassing the 20 million mark which he hasn’t during the previous few windows. I wanted Ricci but he wasn’t for sale but I expect Gerry to open the wallet and surpass the 20 million mark again for him.
The Pioli days are over, I liked the teams he had too but the message died out and the wrong players took over the club. I wanted Tonali to stay and become the leader for years but it didn’t work out that way. I think if he stayed we’d see a different Theo. I still would like Theo and Leão to remain and we figure out how to spark the magic again with both of them playing for the squad and not just each other.
Now, I don’t believe any of our coaches hate Italian players. They may not fit the style of play. I want Gabbia in the starting 11 but he is a traditional CB that excels at defending (which I want) but the modern CB demands playing a high line with the ability to pass and dribble and Gabbia is not the best at those things. He has leadership quality and I would like to see him as captain too but I’m not leveraging my fandom over it.
I agree we need to create an identity and our players and DT are charged with that while the management needs to make decisions that bring respect. Not sure if calling on the past is possible here with Maldini. I’d love Gerry to call him up and do whatever it took to bring him back but that won’t happen so you’ll have to come to terms with that somehow. If Gerry sells the club and Maldini comes back I’d be more than happy.
I think the negativity people vent on this forum got to you. Remember people come here to rage and complain so don’t take much of it seriously especially the ones that only come here to moan.
I’m over winning the Scudetto for the season and I watch for the love of the club and the memories they gave me.
I guess you really love the current team who sits at 9th place and plays like crap.
You guess like a small child that lets Tyrone have his way with your a$$.
Stop making things up. Who said they’re happy with 9th? The scudetto winning season was a bit of a fluke and totally unexpected. Pioli’s last two seasons were the same, with the team losing multiple times and being out of the race for the scudetto by the new year. That doesn’t mean anyone is satisfied with the attempts to correct that, and that’s the point you and other toxic fans fail to understand i.e. RedBird ARE trying to correct these issues. That’s why they’ve changed coaches, that’s why they established Futuro and that’s why they have invested heavily. That things haven’t worked out is irrelevant in every way, you have to be incredibly naive to think owners with ZERO experience are going to build a scudetto winning team in 3 transfer windows. Obviously there will be growing pains. Do they continually attempt to resolve the issues? Yes, they certainly do. They signed Fofana, for a problem position, and he excelled in the first half of the season, they changed coach, they signed a young, international class striker and they’re going to hire a sporting director. They’re not going to sell the club, no matter how much you complain. Owners who identify the issues and work quickly to correct them are better than owners who sit on their hands.
Moncada contract expired at june or August, he will leave. You cannot get rid Furlani, he is working for Elliot to make sure RB pay their debt. Ibra? Most fans dont know what his job, he is not technical director or director sport just advisor
Gabbia has consistently been discriminated against by Fonseca and the new guy. It’s got nothing to do with ‘modern defender’. The other CBs can make as many mistakes as they like and they play at every opportunity.
They’re not the first coaches to discriminate against Italians. Milan have discriminated against Italians since probably the early 00s. That is why the last core of Italins died out when those players retired.
And they died out precisely because people work on the assumption that it even matters if Locatelli is better or worse than Tonali or whoever.
It’s this constant search for ‘better’ (or ‘getting better’ by selling Tonali and replacing him with 10 other players) that has lead the club to this moment.
Cristante then Locatelli then Tonali and then and then and then, and never ending search for what?
What have the thousands of transfers over the past 20 years achieved – two Scudetti in 20 years.
And when the club did finally win won they sold most of the players in an attempt to do ‘do better than winning a Scudetto’.
It’s got nothing to do with the negativity on this forum. Frankly I have no idea why have them even bother following the sport of football let alone attempting to support a team.
I don’t get influenced by others.
The sale of Calabria was the last straw. Forced out by Emerson Royal and over-the-hill Walker.
It is no coincidence the club collapsed after it very obviously turned on and froze out its captain and longest serving player. A player who captained the side to back to back top 4 finishes, to 3 top 2 finishes in 4 seasons, and now they’re 9th and ‘team’ morale is shot.
The owners deserve everything they get. And the ‘fans’ who spent their whole time slagging off the players who had actually won things with the club, and worshipping the ransomers who had dragged the club downwards, deserve what they get too.
And the worst part is if the new owner is some Saudi fascist I’ll be out again – doubly out.
Whether or not I return really hangs on a knife edge.
“What would it take me to come back?
(Nobody asked or cares)”
Nobody cares if you come back. Stay in Como!
It clearly has everything you need.
Competitive team can easily be built by hiring the intelligent DS and coach with different types of top European leagues experience and also those that have good vision of scouting the young & gifted players around the globe, with involving some among them that have Italian DNA in their blood, like in the past era pls my dearest team! Some of the players we have to build the team around with them are e.g : Ricci, Sandro Tonalli, Arda guller, Alhassan Yusuf, Mahmud Adams Abubakar etc
Now why don’t we get rid of some of those 4 clowns who got us this low in the first place? Jerry’s little circus of yes men with no experience who brought in a nothing manager to replace pioli, a bunch of cheap signings who didn’t really solve any issues, and a clear demonstration that they dont have a plan nor do they know what to do
We? You have no power. The power is with the bankers and Elliot and stop embarrassing yourself by talking about cheap signings and they obviously have a plan, it’s not a good one.
I don’t get you fans. First you all cried about Patrici because of his scandal now this guy.
Anyway what is the likelihood that the lady that was behind Chelsea join Milan or Ragnick take on that position
Anyone is better than Moncands at this point. He is better off as a scout.
So what’s the point of hiring this guy if the source of problems like Ibra, Furlani, and Moncada are still in the management???
Moncada contract expired at june or August, he will leave. You cannot get rid Furlani, he is working for Elliot to make sure RB pay their debt. Ibra? Most fans dont know what his job, he is not technical director or director sport just advisor
I believe Milan needs to bring back the Italian soul into the club. They need to hire more Italians in the management and in the team.
Bring back Maldini and his son, bring some top Italian players such as Sandro Tonali, Ricci, Calafiori, etc.
Bring Conte, Sarri or Anchilotti
You can’t even spell Ancelotti, also Daniel is not on this clubs level. It just is what it is. Tare is good at is job, and he has a backbone, I will never forget him slapping the taste out of Mihajlovic’s mouth, and then told Lotito explicitly no when he tried to hire Mihajlovic as a coach when he was sporting director at Lazio. He did a great job at Lazio and is certainly not going to let Gerry or Ibra walk all over him.
Stop pushing the false narrative that anyone hired is a doormat. Pioli was the only one who said nothing. Both Fonseca and Conceicao have openly slaughtered the players and complained about other issues, as have the players.
we had maldini… all gerry had to do was nothing and the team would’ve been great
For some of you so called Milan fans, you want Italian or you want the best one out there? (Last time I checked Tare has Italian Passport, or that is not enough)
If you go and check the list of the players Tare bought and sold and during his time at Lazio, and in this time got Lazio to where it is today in addition he made money with possibly one of the lowest budgets. There is your answer. If not the best then one of the best Italian Sporting Directors. I just hope he agrees to come to us, knowing Tare he is verz strategic and smart, but let us hope for the best.
We also need a top manager, the team as it is needs verz little tweaking, some have to go (make money) some have to come.
What we need most is more character in the team. Those who will die out there when they wear our saint jersey (not this off white garbage)
Not sure why there is a bunch of cry babies here that just want to spend spend and spend, even arguably the richest club on earth Newcastle (due to ownershiop) are not able to do that. What part of that you do not understand.
Owners have to be good businesman, responsable and accountable for us to build the future, othwerwise with this mentality we will drown.
Forza Milan! It’s coming.
Sorry I am not Italian, can I at least be a fan, as I was all my life (or perhaps not)
