Tatarusanu says Milan showed ‘character’ and plays down Ibra-Lukaku brawl

By Isak Möller -

Milan suffered their second consecutive win this evening as Inter came back from behind in the Coppa Italia quarter-final. The Rossoneri conceded two goals in the second half after Zlatan Ibrahimovic was sent off.

Stefano Pioli’s men got off to a good start as the Swede opened the scoring with a wonderful finish, and they had every right to be confident at HT. However, after the sending off, things changed and Ciprian Tatarusanu eventually conceded twice.

The goalkeeper did, however, earn the MOTM award in our ratings after making several incredible saves to deny Inter. As he doesn’t play that often, it was certainly impressive and he couldn’t do much about the goals.

In an interview with Rai Sport after the game, as cited by MilanNews, Tatarusanu was asked about the game and also the brawl between Ibrahimovic and Lukaku. As he said, these are normal things in a big game.

On the match…

“We had a great match, we fought from start to finish. Unfortunately, the second yellow for Ibra arrived, these things happen, we tried to keep the 1-1, but in the end, a great goal came.”

On Ibra-Lukaku…

“These are normal things, it’s not the first time in football. I didn’t hear what they said, it wasn’t so bad.”

On his physique…

“I have a good physique, I take care of myself. If an injury does not occur I hope to play 5-6 more years at this level.”

On not being the usual starter…

“I’m a great professional, I train every day to the maximum and wait for the chance to play, when it comes I make the most of it.”

On leading the Serie A standings…

“If we are first in the standings we deserved it. The most important match is against Bologna, we will try to win and stay in first place.”

On the post-Atalanta reaction…

“It wasn’t easy to play after the defeat against Atalanta, we proved to have a strong character, unfortunately, we didn’t win but we showed character and intensity.”
