The 85-year Juventus record Milan would equal in event of top-four failure

Milan will be playing for a spot in the Champions League on Sunday evening, taking on Atalanta away from home. After the Cagliari draw, they are under great pressure to claim all three points at the Gewiss Stadium.

Sure, the Rossoneri are the best away side in the league and Atalanta have already secured a top-four finish, but it will be very tough. Ultimately, it’s very frustrating that it has come to this point as it was there for the taking there last weekend.

Should Milan fail to finish in the top four, then they would equal a not so flattering record that Juventus established 85 years ago. Back then, the Bianconeri became the first side to be the winter champions but also finish outside the top four (fifth in the end).

The same could now happen for Stefano Pioli’s men and that would be nothing short of a disaster, even with all the injury struggles taking into consideration. The game on Sunday, therefore, is extremely important for the club.
