TMW: Milan want to build a team to storm the Champions League – two renewals and four targets

By Oliver Fisher -

The summer transfer window may have just shut, but the AC Milan management face a crucial few months in determining the future of the club.

Journalist Nicolò Ceccarini spoke to TMW about the Rossoneri’s strategies moving forward and began by discussing the renewals of two stars whose deals expire in June 2021 in Gianluigi Donnarumma and Hakan Calhanoglu.

He reports that Donnarumma’s is an extremely delicate issue, but the 21-year-old goalkeeper is very attached to the club and for this reason has given willingness to negotiate a new deal, given that Milan are the team that launched him.

The Rossoneri are preparing an offer that they deem to be suitable for a player like Gigio. The figures will be high but there is ‘moderate optimism’ about the outcome of the negotiation.

The same goes for Çalhanoğlu, as the feeling are that soon an agreement will be found but there is work to be done. Once the two renewals are sorted, Milan will focus on a centre-back.

In January, the leadership will focus on assembling a team capable of not only qualifying for but storming the Champions League area. The names in focus are always the same: Ozan Kabak, Kristoffer Ajer, Nikola Milenkovic and German Pezzella, but other interesting opportunities could arise.
