Tonali explains ‘great emotion’ of scoring winner and praises Milan fans: “It felt like San Siro”

By Isak Möller -

Sandro Tonali was the big hero for AC Milan this evening as he scored the winner against Lazio in injury time. It wasn’t a spectacular display from the midfielder overall, but he was at the right place when it mattered the most.

Milan made things difficult for themselves this evening as they conceded just four minutes into the clash. Fortunately, they scored the equaliser early in the second half and although they left it late, they were able to find the winner.

In our player ratings, Tonali received a 7/10 and was also given the MOTM award for his crucial goal. Speaking to DAZN, as cited by MilanNews, the youngster shared his thoughts on what was a crucial win for the Rossoneri.

On the goal…

“It was a great emotion. We sweated to get this result. The atmosphere at the Olimpico was fantastic, it felt like San Siro. We thank our fans. The goal is a great feeling for me, every goal with this shirt is like that and I will never forget it.”

On the start of the match…

“We started poorly even in the derby, we reacted without finding the goal. Even today we didn’t start well. We created a lot, we were good at finishing.”

On Ibrahimovic…

“He wanted more balls vertically and in between. It’s rare to have someone like him, we have to exploit him as much as possible, from one of his headers the game changed. We must all continue like this.”

On the Scudetto race…

“We have to think about one game at a time. Few believe in us, we are first but no one says we are strong. We are humble and think one game at a time.”

Milan will take on Fiorentina next Sunday and it remains to be seen if they will have Ismael Bennacer back for that game. Either way, Sandro Tonali should keep his spot in the starting XI.

  1. Sandro Tonali——-“Cane Pazzo” some will say he was lucky being in the right pkace at the right time, well I see it as this, the harder you work the luckier he got, they never gave up, except for Leao sitting on his ass, if he would have been on his feet earlier he would have gotten a rebound towards end of regulation play, instead Pioli correctly took his lazy ass off.
