Tonali explains father-like relationship with Gattuso: “He’s always messing with me”

By Isak Möller -

Milan are currently preparing to face Napoli at San Siro on Sunday evening, hoping to build on the important away win against Hellas Verona. A few players will be back from start, including Sandro Tonali.

The midfielder wasn’t 100% fit for the game against Man Utd on Thursday but he came on in the second half and did very well. On Sunday, therefore, he will surely be eager to show his qualities in what will be a very important game.

It’s a special game for Tonali, not only because of the weight of the game, but also because Gennaro Gattuso is the manager of Napoli. The Milan legend is the youngster’s idol and they speak with each other from time to time.

Tonali even called Gattuso to ask for permission to wear the No.8 shirt with the Rossoneri, which he of course got. In an interview with Sky Italia, as cited by MilanNews, the former Brescia man spoke about their relationship.

In the next game, you will challenge Gattuso’s Napoli…

“We speak from time to time. He’s like a dad in the world of football to me: he can give you advice, both as a person and as a footballer. We don’t speak very often, but every now and then during the season.”

What does he say to you?

“He’s always messing with me. That’s how it’s done, let’s say that he praises you little and always expects a lot from everyone: rightly so.”
