Tuttosport: Furlani’s ‘diplomatic mission’ to sign Fofana – what Milan must do

With a striker and central defender added to AC Milan’s squad, the next priority is to add a new defensive-minded midfielder. The ideal addition is Youssouf Fofana, but finalising a deal is not an easy task.

The past few weeks have agonisingly dragged in the Fofana negotiations, and whilst it seemed like things would conclude after France’s European Championship ended, this has not been the case for several reasons.

Monaco are historically difficult negotiators and this much has remained true in the deal for Fofana, where things are barely proceeding – which is understandable considering the positions of both clubs.

For the Rossoneri, they do not want to spend big on a player whose contract expires next season, especially considering he has a desire to join Milan. However, Monaco view the situation frustratingly – the player still has a contract, and whilst he does, they have a price in mind.

As Tuttosport (via Radio Rossonera) reports, the Diavolo are now on a ‘diplomatic mission’ to patch the rift between the two clubs, and the attempts are being led by Giorgio Furlani. Given Milan agreed a deal in principle with the player before the club, this has frustrated Monaco, who have been left with a sour taste in their mouths.

Should Milan fail to land the Frenchman, they will target Manu Kone.

  1. Meaning, Furlani grabbed a bottle of the Tequila they partnered up with and flew over to Monaco for shots….

What happens in Monaco stays in Monaco. Except for Fofana

    1. Maybe Fofana could fill in the gap, i mean he could bridge the fee deficit, like Tonali when he joined our side back then.

      1. You mean player like Adil Rami and Reijnders.
Adil Rami bridged the fee deficit. He payed 500k of his own money to make the transfer happen.
Reijnders gave up money to bridge the fee gap.
“Reijnders pushed hard for the move and he agreed to give up on €3m that AZ owed him in order to facilitate the move and join Stefano Pioli’s squad as soon as possible.”

Tonali was on loan with option to buy at Milan in his 1st season. He was so bad that Milan actually sent him back to Brescia and had to renegotiate the whole deal again. Because he was bad, Milan didn’t want to pay Brescia the buyout fee agreed, so they were negotiating a new deal. His transfer fee and salary went down because of that. His salary was lowered by 300k for only 1 season, after that he got a new contract with double the salary.
As you can see other players have actually given up money to facilitate transfer to Milan. Tonali salary was lowered because of poor performances.
        Reijnders gave up 3 mil.

    2. Furlani is not in the same league as Man Utd and he’s track record at bring big players like Fofana to Milan sucks.

This maybe his swan song if he doesn’t bring him and fails with Monaco for Fofana. Furlani the world is watching your value to Milan at the helm!

  2. I’m quite sure that the mission will fail. We need to move on to another REAL defensive midfielder as soon as possible. I don’t think that Manu Koné is a true DM.

    1. There are bunch of good DMs, like Declan Rice, Tchouameni, Caicedo, Joào Neves, Amadou Onana, Zubimendi, or perhaps Amrabat.

      1. So AC Milan wont fork up more than 20 mil for Fofana and of all of the suggestions you come up with only one is feasible and that is Amrabat the rest will cost north of 50 mil and even around 100 mil.

      2. that won’t be happening any time soon, maybe once they are over 30?

We are more of a Sangare, Danilo, Wieffer, Varela, Schouten, Locatelli, Florentino level team.

  3. The way Monaco behave in this saga really reminds me of how Torino’s boss usually deals with the same situation. The ego and stubbornness cloud their logic. Yes it is rightfully for them to do so. But it is just too bad in these cases, it tends to end up with lose-lose-lose situation (the club owning the player, the player, and the club with interest)
