The January transfer window closes around Europe this evening, and there is still the possibility of AC Milan completing multiple deals.
The winter mercato closes at 20:00 CET, and we at SempreMilan will guide you through the final few hours of the window. There is the potential for some late movement, so sit back and enjoy!
20:00 CET – Winter mercato officially shut
It’s been quite a boring deadline day for AC Milan, with the club not adding anyone to their ranks on the final day of the window. However, there were two departures, as Chaka Traore and Marco Pellegrino both left on loan, joining Palermo and Salernitana, respectively.
19:45 CET – TRAORE OFFICIAL
AC Milan have confirmed that Chaka Traore has completed a move to Palermo on loan until the end of the season, and the move could become permanent in the summer.
19:40 CET – Two identified for summer incomings
With the January window looking complete, plans have already been drawn up for the summer as reported by Corriere dello Sport. This includes a move for a €50m striker and a defender that the club are infatuated with.
19:00 CET – Armando No-Chance, just yet?
Milan made a late attempt to sign long-term target, Armando Broja, on loan in the past few hours, as reported by The Athletic. Whilst a deal won’t be done this window, a deal is expected to be revisited in the summer.
17:15 CET – Preferences shift in the race for a striker
Alfredo Pedulla has suggested that Milan may look to other options before Jonathan David in the summer transfer window. The Canadian remains among the options, but the club could make moves for other targets before the Lille striker.
16:40 CET – Winter move gone cold, summer move heating up
Reports from Telefoot suggest that Milan will not be adding Lilian Brassier in the ending hours of the window. However, a move in the summer could happen given the Frenchman’s contract situation.
16:00 CET – No late bedtime
According to what was reported by SportMediaset, Milan will not complete the signing of another player between now and the deadline. Chalobah and Nianzou were options, but as Giorgio Furlani said the club will not do business for the sake of it.
15:10 CET – Renewals simmering
As often happens at the end of the winter mercato, the time will come to address some of the more pressing contractual situations concerning players within the squad and that very much applies to Milan.
14:35 CET – Summer scheming
Moncada and D’Ottavio are planning for the future too and they want to try secure at least one free transfer ahead of June. A Fulham defender reportedly has a ‘good chance’ of arriving.
14:10 CET – Rafael under the Eiffel?
Milan will not budge when it comes to the price that they will demand for Rafael Leao amid reported interest from Paris Saint-Germain, we have been told.
13:25 CET – PELLEGRINO OFFICIAL
AC Milan have officially confirmed that Marco Pellegrino has joined Salernitana on a loan deal until the end of the season.
12:45 CET – A bit of humour
The rumours continue to swirl suggesting that Antonio Conte could become the next head coach, and Telelombardia predicted how his Milan might look.
12:20 CET – LATE MOVEMENT?
AC Milan are still pushing to sign a centre-back in the final stages of the window and Lokomotiv Moscow defender Lucas Fasson has been offered, according to a report.
11:50 CET – Computer says no
Di Marzio is reporting that the negotiations between Milan and Salernitana for Pellegrino’s loan nearly collapsed due to an administrative error on the part of his former club Platense.
11:20 CET – Rossonero to Rosanero
More details are emerging on Chaka Traore’s move to Palermo. They have closed the purchase of the Ivorian on an initial loan deal with an option to buy set at €10m plus a 15% resale clause, with no mention of a buy-back.
10:49 CET – Hunt for a 9
Milan debated whether or not to go for a striker in January but they have settled on making a summer investment instead, with four names standing out above all who appeal for different reasons.
10:27 CET – In Fair Verona
Milan always have an eye on the future when it comes to recruitment, and they have two young Hellas Verona players on their wish list according to Gianluca Di Marzio.
10:00 CET – Chaka’s cases packed
Chaka Traorè could also leave Milan on loan and the most likely option at the moment is Lausanne, a team that plays in the Swiss Super League, as per Romano.
09:30 CET – Marco to go?
Marco Pellegrino’s situation is an interesting one. The Argentine is still expecting to join Salernitana as per Fabrizio Romano, even if there were reports FIFA would block it.
The management and lawyers remained in contact with the governing body to find a solution, updates will therefore follow.
09:00 CET – Leaving empty handed?
Milan evaluated various centre-back targets over the past few weeks including Tosin Adarabioyo, Lilian Brassier, Trevoh Chalobah, Jakub Kiwior, Clement Lenglet and most recently Merih Demiral.
As we begin deadline day, the management are currently not expected to make a signing but there is of course the margin for something to happen late.
Yeah there won’t be anything guys. It’s difficult getting anyone in the winter. And anyone that is signed is usually a low level or supplemental signing. We weren’t going to get a big name signing.
So what business did we really do this mercato?
Romero out – not replaced
Traore out – not replaced
Pellegrino out – not replaced
Terracciano – in
Gabbia – back
Backfilling with youth.
Was the squad strengthened at all? or are we weaker now?
1) Waiting for new coach in the summer
2) It’s always more difficult to make purchases, especially big ones, in the winter window
but what happened with origi?
Thought he was going to MLS?
Not much that could have really been done during the winter. It’s been quiet all over Europe, even in the Premier League.
Get used to this being the norm from now on and also why are people so sure we’ll be getting a new coach?
As long as elliot own the club there won’t be a change apart from more players leaving not that we have that many other clubs want.
Conte is off to Newcastle Motta to Brighton de zerbi to man utd klopp in a year’s time to Barca so who is the next coach.?
The owners are doing exactly what they said they were going to maximise profit for there investors and give little back and as long as people continue to be silent on this matter the more we’re going to resemble Benfica Ajax ect .
To many people regarding Ac milan want to demonise the past and not celebrate it or use it as an example going foward.
Berlusconi spent as reported around a billion and a half in over thirty years and not just on players but all throughout the club setting very high standards ok it wasn’t all plain sailing but I would say after 30 years he and the club did pretty good.
Since elliott equired the club what standards have they set?
Ffp comes up time and time again ok so why not tackle uefa regarding ffp and clubs like man city Chelsea Barca Psg this after all are a hedge fund who has taken country’s to court and won?
They brought in Ibra to represent quality and know how regarding Ac milan what was wrong with Maldini?
They deemed middleEast investment to be no good when sale talks began yet let REDBIRD Gery dispite the fact not having the money take over money by the way to the tune of over half a billion.
The future for both Ac milan and seria a looks bleaker than ever I’m afraid and there appears to be far to many people with the heads in the sand .
Serie A or the sport sector is just a microcosm of the Italian economy as a country.
The failure and the downward spiral of the Serie A is a direct reflection of the political instability, economic and political crisis, corruption and bad management that has bewildered Italy as a country.
Investor funds are trapped with huge tax burden and poor economic and business environment.
Until Italy repositions itself properly, real Investors with huge funds will always avoid coming in.
Look, Juventus who have built their stadium since 2011 and won the Scudetto from 2011 to 2020, for good nine years still acquired a debt of around 700 million. Why? Because they were audacious and tried to do business like other countries, but the ROI has never been commensurate and the league favourable for big spenders.
Without CL money, no Italian club can compete globally, unlike other serious leagues where TV rights revenue is sufficient to sustain the club and make it compete in the transfer market.
Juventus in that period performed between being knocked out of the group stage and reaching the Quarter Finals. The farthest Juventus reached in the CL in that period was the Final in 2018/2019. With the kind of funds invested by them, even after signing Cristiano Ronaldo, they needed to reach the Final of the CL every season to stay off debt, but how realistic is that for any club? That’s how difficult it is to invest in Italy.
We must see things on the actual value of things, the Berlusconi era was in the good old days of Italy before the crisis erupted the country. For almost thirty years, Berlusconi didn’t care how much money Milan was making, he funded Milan’s largesse in the transfer market through proceeds from his company (Mediaset). Until around 2010/2011 when the crisis had deepend and it affected the entire country and also Mediaset began to record losses, Berlusconi could no longer fund Milan’s transfer with Mediaset funds, that was the beginning of Milan’s crisis.
We as fans may not like it, but the RedBird conservative approach is the only business viable approach to succeed as a business corporation in Italy at the moment unless the league generates more money domestically.
Spot on
Very very very true, unless ofcoarse, Arab oil money comes in
