Albertini discusses future of Hernandez, Leao and Maignan: “I would sell one”

Theo Hernandez, Rafael Leao and Mike Maignan have all been linked with some very big clubs over the last few months, considered to be the stars of AC Milan. The club legend Demetrio Albertini has stated that he would sell one of them.

Just this morning, Gazzetta dello Sport outlined that Bayern Munich are keeping tabs on Hernandez and Maignan, while PSG are following Leao closely. In short, one or two offers could arrive in the summer and Milan are willing to listen (albeit only to very high offers).

Speaking to the pink newspaper (see photo below), the former Milan midfielder Demetrio Albertini was asked about the future of the trio. He stated that he would sell one of them as it could fund the summer mercato, as happened after the sale of Sandro Tonali.

“I would sell one. What Milan did with Tonali last summer was the right move, especially for a club that wants to reinforce while keeping the accounts in order. How would I choose? First of all, I would talk to the players to understand who really wants to stay and embrace the project.

“Then, I would also factor in the charisma of the three players inside the locker room. The first is more important than the second, because what do you do with a leader who doesn’t believe in the project?”, he stated.

Milan’s priority is and has always been to renew the contracts of Hernandez and Maignan, having renewed Leao last summer. However, there is no doubt that offers close to €100m could change their minds, especially for the goalkeeper as the renewal talks are complicated.

  1. I’m not sure we can rely on Caldaria any longer. If we sacrifice one of the 3 (and i hope its Mike), then a decent RB will have to be factored in. Theo needs back up, then a DM and perhaps 2 strikers, budget permitting. Milan have been notoriously bullied out of free agents, so they will have to box wisely to reinforce this summer.

  2. I’d only sell Maignan if he doesn’t want to renew. Theo is just too good to be replaced, period. Players of the quality of Leao are just too expensive for us.
I thought the point was to target some players to reinforce positions we suffer in, what’s the point of selling our best players ? Are we going banckrupt ?

    1. I definitely agree on theo and I also don’t think a goalkeeper is worth to be paid 8m in this Milan, but if we had the budget I would have keep Menian he is world class. The skill of leao is also wc but his mindset is not, so he is average and I would even accept 100m

      1. The mindset can be improved upon collectively, and while Leao tends to be lazy sometimes, he is no Balotelli either. I wouldn’t sell him even for 100M because the loss of quality would be hard (extremely hard to replace). An out shape, out of focus Leao stills drags 2 or sometimes 3 defenders with him, making up space for teammates, his skills are unparalleled in the team and he has a good partnership with Theo. Unless we switch to an entirly new system like a 3-5-2 or 3-4-3 and invest in a world-class support striker, I don’t really see a benefit in giving up the best player we have.

  3. It’s a no brainer. Mike Maignan should be sold. He’s almost most 30yrs old and he wants 8//9m salary. I don’t get why Milan would even waste their time trying to negotiate with him to keep when over the past 2 seasons he has been injury prone and clearly on a decline. A goalkeeper is the easiest and cheapest player to replace.

Milan are wasting time. They should have already signed a keeper in January or have one lineup for the summer to replace Maignan.

    1. Yes easiest to replace but only if you want to be middle table team not to become a champion.
Cups and big matches are won by Goalkeepers.
You can check his saves last year champions league run where we got 120million and this year in Europa league chance we got only because of the save Maignan did against Newcastle(we got 20million plus atleast after that and also it increase our club value the more we advance to quarters semifinals every year, so as money)
For the last year run semifinals in Champions league, we got 120m only because past 10years we are very bad and played a little in Europe, we should get 30/40m more if we had played Europe.

I explain all this because Goalkeeper is as important as attack, perfect example was lunin this week against city and Thibault courtois in final of 2022 champions league.

If the aim/project of AC Milan is to just participate champions league and top 4/5 in Serie A, we can surely sell Maignan even for 50million rather than going for free.

If he is not worth of 8m salary, How are you people expecting 100m transfer fee 🤣🤣🤣

Maignan is at his peak age not like Leao/Theo at 24. He deserved 8m for me.
He can get 12m if he quit Milan

Anyway I hope Magic Mike stays with Milan and sell someother player except Theo(French TGV) .

    1. Good idea.
I think Cardinale haven’t got this idea. He is looking for money everywhere but he can fill 300m in his pocket easily by selling the trio

Admin please tell this to Cardinale, so everyone here don’t have to worry who to sell and whom not to sell
