Tuttosport: Break will help Milan empty the treatment room – latest on each player

By Oliver Fisher -

The break for the World Cup is not just a chance for AC Milan’s squad to recharge their batteries after a difficult start to the season, but it will also give the time necessary for injured players to heal.

As reported by Tuttosport (via MilanNews), Mike Maignan – who is recovering from a second calf issue after sustaining a first one many weeks ago – will return to the field in the first game back after the break, which is on 4 January away against Salernitana field. His absence weighed heavily, but fortunately now the worst is behind the former Lille man who is very close to full recovery.

The paper goes on to state that the right flank will receive a huge boost too as Davide Calabria and Alexis Saelemaekers will also be back in the squad for the game in Salerno, meaning the captain will return and there will be a new option for the right wing role too.

It will take a little more time instead to see Alessandro Florenzi back on the field after his operation at the beginning of September, but the Rossoneri full-back is targeting the Champions League round of 16 first leg against Tottenham (on February 14).

Finally, it remains to be seen when Zlatan Ibrahimovic will be back on the pitch. On Sunday, technical director Paolo Maldini declared that Milan are waiting for him in January, so he could be back for Salernitana or it might take a few more days.
