CM: What is behind Furlani’s words on the futures of Leao, Maignan and Theo

By Oliver Fisher -

CEO Giorgio Furlani had some interesting things to say during an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport yesterday, including some comments on the future of key players.

As Calciomercato.com recall, Furlani could not hide his excitement about the idea of Rafael Leao remaining at the club, as he said during his interview: “Long live Leao at Milan. He’s fine here, he should be the one to ask us if he wants to go but he really doesn’t want to.”

His words are music to the ears of the Milan fans who received confirmation from the CEO of a marriage destined to last a long time despite the flattery of PSG.

On the other hand, the interview is a manifesto of the ownership’s intentions to return to being protagonists not only in Italy but also in Europe and the absence of big players in the squad would mean it risks remaining a mere intention.

It has not escaped most people’s attention that Furlani the became more serious regarding the questions relating to the future of two other top players in the squad such as Theo Hernandez and Maignan.

“They have a contract until June 2026. There is talk of selling or buying but It’s often the players who decide their future. Theo and Mike are two champions, we hope they stay with us for as long as possible and still make a difference,” he said.

There are no alarm bells but it was a message that affirms what we perhaps already knew: the performances of the two French national teams have attracted the interest of Bayern Munich – and not only them – which means offers could be forthcoming that are hard to say no to.

The ownership’s idea remains to extend, without haste but with patience, the contracts of both while remaining within certain economic limits. Hence the need to understand how much both Theo and Mike want to show their loyalty to the club and what their demands will be.
