CorSera: Pioli could adapt Theo Hernandez’s role to cope with Leao’s absence

By Oliver Fisher -

The red card that Rafael Leao received against Sampdoria will deprive Milan of its most important and decisive man in the game against Napoli on Sunday, but how will Stefano Pioli replace him?

Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews) reports that the ideal replacement would be Ante Rebic, but the Croatian is still struggling with a back problem and is not expected to be back for the top of the table clash against Napoli.

Divock Origi – another player who could be deployed wide on the left – also remains in doubt as the Belgian is trying to solve the muscle problem that has kept him out of the last two games, which now raises a dilemma.

The most obvious solutions for Pioli would be to field either Rade Krunic or Brahim Diaz in that role as he has before, while Alexis Saelemaekers has also played wide on the left before.

However, the paper also talks about a more radical hypothesis that cannot be ruled out, namely that of moving Theo Hernandez further up the field (as Gareth Bale did at Spurs having been a full-back before) with Sergino Dest or Fode Ballo-Toure to then fill the gap behind.

      1. I am not forgetting him, I mentioned him as LW at my comment in another article. But my comment above is specific for the part of this article which put Ballo-Toure at LB while Theo at LW.

  1. Theo has a terrible finish. Clumsy. Better keep him as he is and Dest as LW. Or go 3-5-2. Kaejar/Tomori/Kal_ Tonali/Bennacee/DCalabri/Theo. Diaz AMF. DeK/Giroud

  2. I would love to see Theo as LW. I would trust Dest or Ballo T to cover. Ballo made some mistakes last year and must be hungry to prove himself
