CorSport: Milan must rely on Giroud and Leao to deliver the Scudetto

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan will be relying on attacking duo Olivier Giroud and Rafael Leao to deliver the Scudetto in the final two games of the season, a report claims.

As has been written by Corriere dello Sport (via Milan News), Giroud and Leao are the two players out of Milan’s attacking options that have always been guaranteed to start for Stefano Pioli when fit.

They are the top scorers for the Rossoneri and they have the ability to clinch a first Scudetto since 2011.

Milan face Atalanta on Sunday evening and they know that a win will all but secure the Scudetto. Leao’s explosive pace and incredible dribbling ability will be needed to get the better of La Dea.

They will also need Giroud to be lethal in front of goal as he has been for much of the season. Pioli’s side cannot afford to waste any chances that come their way.

The gap between Milan and Inter is two points heading into the penultimate weekend.

  1. Giroud has 2 goals and 1 assist in last 10 matches. I’ve never seen a worse striker in “lethal form”. He hasn’t managed to score for 2 games in a row for the whole season, the only reason he is playing when he is fit because there is no one else. The goals against Inter were great, but most of the rest was being completely useless. He can’t even win most of the air duels at 1.93M and missed a bag of clear chances.

    1. Them 2 goals against Inter are the reason why we in such a great position so try and be more grateful my friend. Forza Milano!!

      1. Are you joking? The reason is 36 matches, not that one. If we had a real striker or if Ibra was fit we would already be champions.

      2. But have you watched the last 3 matches? I mean even the Croatian commentator was laughing at what Giroud is doing and he can’t really do that. Literally laughed at him.

  2. totally correct, I should write these articles, Leao’s goals come when he is one on one, which is dependant on central pressure directly in front of goal which has started to happen, Giroud’s game is stagnant do to fact he is marked by at least two in the box awaiting a header. Mid season our game became predictable. Rebic at the 10 or 9 , now that we are producing goals with our feet headers will come. Corner kicks have produced nothing ,corner kick to central area for secondary distribution, cut Theo loose to drive centrally and distribute or shoot, this has been extremely effective for him with the French Nat’l team, lots of assists and goals. No doubt Giroud has been a huge asset getting us to this point, however we need to put our foot on the throat of our opponents ,it is now or never, good things seem to happen with Rebic and Ibra on the pitch. Viva Milano

  3. He has been ok at best, you can compare him to Ibra and see they have the same numbers but Giroud play double the minutes. He played at Arsenal for 6 seasons in his best years and he scored just over 7 goals. That is ridiculous for a striker. I’ve already said it, if we had a real lethal striker and not Giroud playing for over half of the season we would be winning the Serie A a few weeks before. We need a top striker, not Giroud, Belotti and similar guys.

  4. Giroud is a class act ,let’s make no mistake about that .Had it not been for his goals against inter and Napoli we would not still be in the title race .Technically he is still brilliant, and his awareness of others second to none ..When Olivier scores tomorrow, what will everyone be saying ..? …experience has brought this young exciting Milan to position they are in ..I am talking about Zlatan and Olivier ..I have always believed that the signing of Olivier Giroud was a absolutely steal, and I have always believed that with him we could win the scuddeto this season ,and indeed I still believe we will..This AC Milan team are so exciting to watch ,even better when Giroud plays .
