CorSport: Sporting ask Mendes for Silva; Milan’s mercato could be unlocked

By Oliver Fisher -

Sporting CP have reportedly asked agent Jorge Mendes about the chances of signing Andre Silva, something which could unlock Milan’s mercato.

The Portugal international is ‘destined’ to leave Milan before the window shuts as the club need to sell him to raise funds and he is not part of Marco Giampaolo’s plans.

Silva looked to be closing in on a €30m move to Monaco, but it ended up falling through due to financial disagreements, meaning Jorge Mendes is now looking for new suitors.

It was claimed earlier in the week that Milan had rejected an approach from Sporting CP for Silva, while on Thursday more reports emerged suggesting they are still interested.

Friday’s edition of il Corriere dello Sport provides a big update by suggesting that Milan’s mercato is about to burst into life.

The paper states: “Crack for Silva. Correa warms up. The Rossoneri’s second phase could take off in a matter of hours.

“Sporting Lisbon has asked Mendes for Andre Silva: if he goes, everything is unlocked.”
