DAZN’s ‘Bordocam’ has revealed some interesting unseen footage from AC Milan’s defeat to Napoli on Monday night.
The trip to Naples proved to be less than fruitful for Milan, who now have to redeem themselves in Saturday’s match against Udinese having surrendered second place in the table, and probably any slim Scudetto hopes.
DAZN’s Bordocam (via Radio Rossonera) was published on Thursday evening and it revealed some behind-the-scenes information on the reactions of Allegri and his staff, as well as curious moments involving players such as Rafael Leao and Alexis Saelemaekers.
Allegri and Landucci’s words
The Rossoneri staff’s attention was already evident in the pre-match when Landucci urged the team on in the tunnel leading to the dressing room: “We’re always paying attention, we’re on the move. Let’s start off with a good start.”
As is his custom, Allegri commentated on the match, facing his bench to comment on all the incidents. Indeed, after Youssouf Fofana’s rather soft shot in the sixth minute, he turned and mimed the gesture with his hands, stating: “He should have gone for it on the volley, with his foot.”
The same thing happened a few minutes later when he commented on Strahinja Pavlovic’s missed chance: “He should have gone for it with his toe.” A few minutes after asking for more possession, Milan had a great chance through Nkunku. Allegri reacted: “But he has to score from there, oh.”
Bordocam also reveals that it wasn’t just the coach who gave instructions, but Leao also wanted to contribute, telling Davide Bartesaghi: “Barte, always send him to the right,” referring to Gutierrez after Conte had asked him to move further up the pitch and take on the man.
A few minutes later, after Pavlovic’s tackle on Giovane, Allegri turns to the bench almost dejected, and this time Landucci takes it upon himself to reassure him: “No, we’re doing well but every now and then we’re missing something.”
Given the difficulty in finding openings, in the final minutes of the first half Max talks first to Leao and Ricci on the bench, and then to Modric on the pitch what needs to be improved: “Luka, first wide and then inside.”
Saelemaekers’ reaction and the final disappointment
Saelemaekers’ irritated reaction to the substitution had sparked controversy during the match, but Allegri quickly addressed the issue, clearing the air with the Belgian even before any controversy erupted: “Hey Alex, you did what you had to do, oh, calm down.”
The disappointment of the Belgian seemed to afflict the coach himself a few minutes later when, after conceding a goal to Politano, he let out a question: “How can you concede a goal like that?”.
In the final minutes of the match, Allegri vented his anger to his staff, speaking first to Landucci and Dolcetti, then to Magnanelli and Fillippi, exclaiming: “I told you, we mustn’t mess up the game.”
