Di Stefano praises ‘elegance’ of Maldini and Pioli despite obvious officiating mistake

AC Milan failed to claim all three points in their clash against Udinese yesterday and while it was mostly their fault, the referee and VAR made a huge mistake that was decisive. Still, the Rossoneri remained respectful.

Throughout the course of the season, Milan have been on the receiving end of some strange decisions from the referees that, in hindsight, have proved costly. Yesterday was another example as Udinese’s equaliser should have been ruled out for a clear handball.

Paolo Maldini decided to speak to MilanTV after the game and spoke about what was an incorrect decision for the first time on TV. The directors, and even Pioli, usually don’t talk about the referees and even last night, they kept it very respectful.

This was highlighted by Sky journalist Peppe Di Stefano (via MilanNews) as, even though they pointed out the mistake this time, both Maldini and Pioli made it clear Milan weren’t good enough.

“Yesterday I liked Maldini’s elegance, but also that of Pioli, who didn’t say they didn’t win because of the referee, but that they weren’t good. Yesterday was the straw that broke the camel’s back. It’s the first time Maldini speaks about the referees. However, the tone was polite and he said things he should have said,” he stated.
