The five key battles that could win or lose the game for Milan against Bologna

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan have a big opportunity to assert themselves in the Scudetto race this evening as Inter lost against Lazio last night. Taking on Bologna, there are a few interesting battles that could decide the game.

Stefano Pioli’s men were held to a 1-1 draw against Atalanta and although it wasn’t a poor performance overall, it left the fans with a bitter-sweet taste. The Rossoneri will be looking to get back to winning ways against Bologna tonight, therefore.

Inter’s loss is an added incentive for Milan, who could come away with the three points tonight depending on five key battles. The first is Rafael Leao vs. Adama Soumaoro, as the former is eager to show his qualities amid recent poor displays and mercato rumours. And his pace against Soumaoro could be a big key.

Then, we have Charles De Ketelaere vs. Nicolas Dominguez. The Belgian will make his full debut for Milan and we all know his qualities, having seen glimpses of what he can do in the first two games. However, Dominguez is a tough and physical player that could make life difficult for the No. 90.

Taking a look at the attacking power for Bologna, Fikayo Tomori will be tasked with keeping Musa Barrow quiet. The latter almost scored a wonderful strike the last time these two sides squared off but Mike Maignan responded with a great save.

Given the recent performances of Theo Hernandez, Bologna are likely to target the opposite flank instead. Davide Calabria will thus have to keep the youngster Andrea Cambiaso (who has been linked with Milan) in order.

Finally, Ismael Bennacer has been in great form lately and as he likes to drop down almost between the defenders, Marko Arnautovic will surely try to make life hard for the Algerian. If the latter can get himself space, then Milan will have a good chance of winning.
