GdS: A ‘Leao-like’ offer – Milan preparing newest renewal offer for Theo

By Ben Dixon -

Now that the European Championship is finished for France, there are two big tasks for AC Milan to begin, and a report from this morning has suggested that the Rossoneri are preparing to make a ‘Leao-like’ offer.

By all accounts, Milan are in a fantastic position in the mercato, and their budget is very healthy. However, the sale of a star cannot be ruled out, even if no one is technically ‘for sale’.

The story leading up to the mercato was that there was no pressure to sell, and there did not have to be a ‘sacrifice’ for the Rossoneri to improve the squad, like was the case last summer. Instead, the only reason stars would leave is if offers too good to refuse arrived.

Fears about Rafael Leao were put to bed quickly, given the release clause exists and his contract is lengthy, but the same cannot be said for Mike Maignan and Theo Hernandez, and it is the latter whose deal is under scrutiny at the moment, according to Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below).

Vital two months…

At present, Milan have a season of safety, but even then, if an agreement is not reached, it will not feel like a safety net, which is why the figures must be arranged quickly.

Gazzetta suggests that the deal being concocted by the management is on a similar economic level to Leao’s, and it would see the Frenchman earn €6.5 million per season net, a reasonable figure for the player who is the vice-captain and five years for the Diavolo.

However, there is no rush, and other things will take priority, such as finalising deals for Strahinja Pavlovic, Alvaro Morata and Youssouf Fofana, which allows Theo to enjoy his well-earned holidays.

No offers

The worry was that offers would arrive before and during the Euros, but that has not been the case, and nothing concrete has arrived on the doorstep of Casa Milan, and whilst rumours of interest exist, they have not been made into anything tangible.

It remains to be seen whether Theo will ‘stay or leave’ as he said, but with a mega contract in the works, all we can do now is see, but Milan are confident.

  1. “By all accounts, Milan are in a fantastic position in the mercato”

    🤣🤣🤣

14th of July and still waiting

    1. Milan account is indeed very fantastic … As there is nothing spent at all!

But the euro and Copa is indeed an obstacles for the transfer… Next week I think, at least two transfers will happen. Hopefully.

      1. Two years ago the mercato started late because the ownership was long to extend Maldini and Massara. Last year it started late because they fired them. This year it starts late again for whatever reason, new coach or Euro/Copa, etc. Meanwhile top Serie A clubs, even some with new coach, didn’t wait for the end of the international competitions to extend or recruit top players. That’s because these clubs want to succeed.

Milan is obsessed with the budget and is not trying to get the top recruits, just “opportunities” that can be enough for top 4. That is painful, after years of financial struggle, to witness this football titan wasting chances to compete while being completely free of debt.

  2. with Morata, Fofana and Palvovic coming what else do you want from the management. you want a striker you have one. you want dm and cb there you go. kiletufe ooooo.

From what i am seeing if milan get all this transfers done. they should be looking at the free market for additional quality that will make them spend less.

i love the management ltp . the vision view is to have about 5-6 talent before the stadium comes in place and a green book.

then we can flood in star players and make all the money in our stadium. but while at that we keep positive records. UCL appearances and Fun football from Mr Zoro

    1. First of all we don’t know if all three are guaranteed to arrive. Even if they are, it seems they’ll arrive late and won’t have a proper preseason which can be very detrimental to their season as they’re new to the team. Personally I have no clue about Pav until I read about it here and ppl in the comments section here were talking him up. My guess is also that ppl have only seen highlights and haven’t really watched the Austrian league so that’s probably the basis for the hype as highlight packages do exactly that…..showcase only the good things. Unless you personally know better then sure, he might be a good signing.
And Fofana I’m not aware of how good he really is. If we’re playing 433 we’ll need more than just him unless we trust our current mids which s.ucked last year to do the job as sub. If 4231, we’ll still need another DM.
With Morata, that’s just status quo. Almost same stats as Giroud so we know where our output would be, though I’m less concerned about that and more concerned about our midfield defence.

Also why do we need to sign all these players before checking free agency? Why not just check the freebies now and lay the foundations. Varane seems to be going to Como for instance. Hummels is available. Those are two quality players with experience which the squad currently lacks.

The problem is that we will eventually sign players it’s when and how functional they are to our system. The earlier we get that sorted the better from a planning standpoint. Management ltp is what it is but they said in the short term two separate things. One said they equip the team to win trophies and the other says top 4 is fine. Which is it? I believe it’s the latter

  3. 6-7mil range is what I thought they would offer him. Would be a fair offer. The captaincy issue is another beast altogether.

Theo’s discipline has been off-putting to me to make him captain. I don’t know if he’s captain material if I’m honest. but neither is Calabria for that matter.

Honestly I don’t know who commands that sort of respect in the locker room now. Mike, maybe?
