GdS: Milan deservedly winter champions and need to make the most of heavy defeat

By Isak Möller -

There’s no point in hiding it: Milan failed to make a good impression against Atalanta last night. The Bergamo side’s win was inevitable based on how the game went and Stefano Pioli’s side will have to recover quickly.

Having said that, any team can lose a game and it’s all part of their journey. As highlighted by Gazzetta Dello Sport (via MilanNews), the Rossoneri are deservedly the winter champions as was the case in the 2010/11 season.

In the 19 days games so far, Milan have been the most continuous, often the one with the best performances thanks to the formidable work of Pioli. Despite yesterday’s defeat, compared to a year ago, they have registered 18 more points and 21 more goals.

The 43 points obtained at the half-way point remains a record haul for Milan since the league returned to 20 teams. Pioli and the fans would have liked to celebrate with a victory, but it’s only human. The Rossoneri, however, will have to treasure the lesson received yesterday.
