GdS: Six players to form the core of Rangnick’s Milan side – Romagnoli not included

By Oliver Fisher -

The rumoured incoming AC Milan boss Ralf Rangnick has identified six players that will form the core of his side, a report claims.

There continues to be an abundance of speculation in the media claiming that Rangnick will be the man to lead Milan on a new youth-oriented project.

According to Monday’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Calciomercato.com) he has been doing his research on the current squad already and has picked out six players to build around.

The players chosen by the German to form the backbone of his new side are Gianluigi Donnarumma, Theo Hernandez, Andrea Conti, Ismael Bennacer, Hakan Calhanoglu and Rafael Leao.

Every name is significant, starting from Donnarumma who is contracted until 2021 plus Theo Hernandez and Ismael Bennacer who have been linked with PSG. Conti has struggled for form all season as has Calhanoglu, and Leao has disappointed since his arrival from Lille last summer.

However, the 61-year-old clearly sees something in them to structure his way of playing around them.
