Luciano Spalletti is AC Milan’s first choice to take over from Marco Giampaolo if he is sacked as head coach, a report claims.
With four defeats in six to start the season, rumours are rife that Genoa represents a decisive game for Giampaolo to save his job.
Rudi Garcia, Andriy Shevchenko, Gennaro Gattuso and Claudio Ranieri have all been linked as potential replacements, while contact was reportedly made with Max Allegri, as per Mediaset.
There have also been reports that Milan consider Spalletti a ‘dream option’, while journalist Bruno Longhi that Spalletti would accept an offer to coach Milan if it arrived.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport – as cited by Calciomercato.com – Spalletti first name for the Milan bench in case of farewell to Giampaolo.
The club like his style of play and ability to achieve results, but two major obstacles remain: namely his very high salary and the fact he is still tied contractually to Inter.
