GdS: Leao out for huge Napoli clash – five options Pioli is considering to replace him

By Oliver Fisher -

Stefano Pioli has been left to study potential solutions as he will be without a number of different forwards for the huge game against Napoli on Sunday.

Rafael Leao would have started on the left wing but he will be disqualified after being sent off in the match against Sampdoria for receiving two yellow cards, and La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) confirms that Pioli will have to do without Ante Rebic and Divock Origi who are both injured.

Pioli has several solutions to replace the Portuguese winger on the left flank and one of them is to shift Alexis Saelemaekers over to the opposite side, given that he has already played on the left in the past.

Another alternative is Brahim Diaz, who did play as a left winger towards the end of the 2020-21 season when Hakan Calhanoglu was the playmaker.

At the moment two more remote hypotheses involve seeing Rade Krunic or Yacine Adli in that role. A final possibility that cannot be excluded is to push Theo Hernandez up from his left-back role, but again this is more unlikely.
