Maldini on Ibrahimovic speculation: “He’s still one of the best in the world, I can’t say more”

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan director Paolo Maldini has refused to comment on speculation that Zlatan Ibrahimovic is closing in on a return to the club.

MLS commissioner Don Graber caused a stir on Thursday night when he claimed that the Rossoneri are ‘recruiting’ Ibrahimovic, who is out of contract at the end of December.

We recently revealed that Elliott Management have made money available to sign more experienced players in January, while Maldini branded Zlatan a ‘dream player’ last week.

Marca then made the bold claim that the 38-year-old is ‘likely to return for another spell with Milan’ despite links with Manchester United, Bologna and Napoli.

Our mercato expert Vito Angele provided an update earlier on Friday by claiming that Milan are in talks with the former Barcelona striker, but that they have denied a deal is done.

Now, Maldini has spoken to Swedish outlet Expressen about the chances of the Rossoneri re-signing Ibrahimovic in January.

“If we will offer him a contract? I’m sorry, but we never comment on players that belong to other clubs. It’s our policy to never comment on rumours like these,” the director said.

”Everyone knows how fantastic he’s been for Milan and the other clubs he’s played for. He’s been one of the best in the world, and still is. It’s obvious. But I can’t say more than that”.
