GdS: Milan know a big investment in the attack is needed – the names and the strategy

By Oliver Fisher -

The Milan management face many difficult tasks in trying to plan for the future but one of the hardest is trying to raise the level of the attack.

La Gazzetta dello Sport begin their report by talking about how Milan’s attack this season has been inconsistent and for those who dream big even in Europe, having an adequately equipped attacking department is essential, which CEO Ivan Gazidis knows.

Among the factors to put on the table when making a decision is Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s future and a potential contract renewal. If the 40-year-old confirms his intention to continue his career as a player, there will have to be a meeting where the parties reach an agreement on his role and his salary moving forward.

The other option at the moment is Olivier Giroud, who has scored 10 goals since arriving but is seemingly unable to find consistency in his performances and he is also 35 years of age, meaning he cannot be considered a long-term option anyway.

The spare centre-forward is Ante Rebic at the moment, but he would like to start more on the left wing and he does not give sufficient guarantees on an athletic level and in form. Then there is the 18-year-old Marko Lazetic who was called up in the two derbies this year without being used, plus Lorenzo Colombo (now on loan at SPAL) and Marco Nasti in the Primavera.

Obviously, if the goal is to win trophies, a new “top level” striker is needed. The options are Jonathan David of Lille, Alexander Isak of Real Sociedad and Noa Lang of Club Brugge (who is admittedly more of a winger).
