MN: Milan intend to fix squad situation in January but now they need to fight

By Isak Möller -

At the end of the summer window, after the desired signings didn’t arrive, many were hoping that the Rossoneri would be able to hold on until January. It worked for a long time, but now the situation is certainly strenuous.

As highlighted by Matteo Calcagni, in his latest piece for MilanNews, too many issues arrived at the same time: Rafael Leao (not back at 100%), Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Simon Kjaer, Matteo Gabbia, Ismael Bennacer and Ante Rebic.

Alexis Saelemaekers was on this list very recently, but fortunately has managed to recover. The two-three signings that didn’t arrive in the summer would have come in really hand today, although there are just two games left of the year.

One can’t condemn the leadership of a team that is going beyond its limits, but instead trust must be put towards it. With some budget left from the summer mercato, it will be used towards this window, although it might not be possible to undo all the knots.

If the current situation seems extremely tough, with one problem after another, it could all be very different in the coming weeks. Not just because of potential signings, but also because some of the injured will have recovered.

A deputy for Ibrahimovic and a centre-back could arrive, while an operation in the midfield shouldn’t be ruled out. With this in mind, the Rossoneri could once again be a Scudetto contender.

In the meantime, they will try to close this 2020 in the best possible way, perhaps pulling some pleasant surprises out of the hat, starting with tomorrow’s game against Sassuolo.
