MN: Scudetto protagonists decide derby for Milan and send important signal

By Isak Möller -

Rafael Leao, along with Mike Maignan and Olivier Giroud, led AC Milan to an important derby win against Inter last night. The trio was crucial last season and now decided a derby for the first time.

Stefano Pioli’s men dominated large parts of the derby and the 3-2 win was certainly justified, even if Inter made a push for it towards the end. As highlighted by MilanNews, the protagonists of the Scudetto season stepped up.

Maignan made several impressive stops, including an amazing one on Calhanoglu, and Leao found the back of the net twice. Giroud came up big against the city rivals once again as he was assisted by the Portuguese winger for the 2-1 goal.

These three were absolutely crucial for Milan last season and last night, they decided the derby together. Milan is the team to beat this season and the Scudetto certainly wasn’t a one-off achievement: last night’s clash made that very clear.

  2. Yes we are in the title Race ,,it was great to see the team that pioli had selected ,as I then could only see one team winning …Leao & Olivier Giroud, what a performance from these two ,and of course the whole team is a team effort ..this same team should start most of the games ,but of course that will not be possible given the congested team schedules that lie ahead ,and of course there will have to be rotations take place ,,,we have to accept that ..So happy with the performance for the first 70 mins , but was a lit but concerned after that ,but that said we were the better team and deserved to win ..Can we win the scuddeto again this season of course we can ,just ask Oliver Giroud,he always believes and so do I ..
