Pioli says Milan had an ‘excellent game’ bar one hiccup as ‘difficult week’ ends

Milan came away with all three points this afternoon despite some nervy minutes towards the end of the game, as Bologna pulled one back. It was an important win for Stefano Pioli’s side, putting pressure on Inter.

The Rossoneri didn’t have the best of games as their performance wasn’t really synced, but it was enough to secure the win. Ante Rebic and Franck Kessie got on the scoresheet, while Zlatan Ibrahimovic missed a penalty.

In an interview with MilanTV, as cited by MilanNews, Pioli spoke about the game and the team’s performances in the last few weeks. He also praised both Ante Rebic and Rafael Leao for the performances this afternoon.

On the performance…

“These matches are always sweaty. Without committing the naivety of the Bologna goal, we had an excellent match. We created and played a lot. I’m happy with the performance and it is a victory that gives us confidence and makes us end a difficult week.”

On Leao’s performance…

“Leao played well. The whole team has proven to be dangerous but Rafa is no longer a surprise. He has great potential and now he has to keep making these performances. Now he is much more in the game: attacking, defending.”

On Rebic’s goal and the confidence he can get…

“He hasn’t been lucky because he had injuries and also COVID. This took away his condition. He is an important player for us and his performance will give him confidence. We have to make the most of the next week of work.”

On the past week…

“The last two training sessions we have done this week are the best in a long time. We have recovered important players and the team has been able to maintain a balanced attitude. We were not happy with the performance against Atalanta, the only team that put us in difficulty this season. We fought with the others.”

Inter will take on Benevento this evening and Milan have surely put some pressure on their shoulders. As for the Rossoneri, their next game is against Crotone at the San Siro eight days from now.
