Saelemaekers heaps praise on Ibrahimovic: “Playing without him is another thing entirely”

By Isak Möller -

Since his arrival in January, it hasn’t always been easy for Alexis Saelemaekers, especially not at the start. Fortunately, he has adjusted to Italian football and is now a usual starter for Milan on the right or left flank.

The Belgian is very versatile and always runs a lot, which is something that managers appreciate. His importance is now undeniable, although you could argue that he needs to improve a bit with his final touch.

In an interview with Mediaset, as cited by Milanlive.it, Saelemaekers spoke about the confidence he’s received from Stefano Pioli and his role on the pitch. An excerpt has been released, but the full interview isn’t out just yet.

“I’m often deployed in the attack. Scoring goals is essential for a striker. The manager also tells me in training to try, to be as concrete as possible,” he said.

The 21-year-old was also asked about the importance of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who has helped the young players a lot since his arrival in January. At the same time, the Swede demands a lot from his teammates and this is needed.

“Ibra is important, a true legend. After the victory on penalties he sent us a message, he is a leader. Playing without him is another thing entirely,” he concluded.
