Sky journalist believes Milan will make ‘four purchases’ and ‘try not to sell’ their stars

AC Milan will attempt to build around their core during the summer transfer window with the signing of four players who can slot straight into the starting XI, a Sky journalist has claimed.

Milan are approaching a crucial few weeks when it comes to laying the foundations for the post-Stefano Pioli era, or rather re-building around the foundations that already exist thanks in large part to the previous head coach.

Peppe Di Stefano was was a guest on Carlo Pellegatti’s YouTube channel to present the new book co-written on the Silvio Berlusconi era titled ‘C’è solo un Presidente’ which is available for pre-order at various places.

As part of the interview, he spoke about the choices that the management must make during the upcoming mercato to back the new head coach, which is looking more and more like being Paulo Fonseca.

“I’m curious what direction Milan’s market will take. If they buy the new Jovic, with all due respect, or the new Giroud or Zirkzee,” he said (via Radio Rossonera).

“Milan have an excellent team but be careful that the next year Napoli will have a great coach, Gasperini has stayed and will have asked for high-level reinforcements, Thiago Motta at Juve, Inter is always the team that has won and is solid.

“Then let’s expect a surprise because next year the league season will be more complicated. It’s four purchases, you can’t make a single mistake.

“You have to try not to sell Leao, Theo and Maignan. The latter two can become leaders. If during the transfer window there is, let’s imagine, a new Kessie, Zirkzee up front and a central defender who can play on the right or a right-footed player who can play central: well, you have the team.”

  1. 4 signings for 100M is roughly 25M per signing.
Someone correct me on this, but I think it would also include the agent’s fees and the player’s contract. If they sell that we won’t sell anyone, that means Maignan and Theo should be renewed this summer since their contracts expire in summer 2026, otherwise the management won’t be able to gain something out of them if they’re not sold this summer. Assuming we renew to them (I hope at least of Theo), will their “new” contract be included in the budget ?
Taking all of that into account, we might not have as much to work with as we think.
Personally, I think we should sell Maignan for 40M or more, focus on 2 or 3 quality signings (and I mean quality, not some “prospect” from Ligue1 or god forbid jupiter league) and try to loan the remaining one/ones.

    1. De’Lorenzo and Boungeruno would bring the serie A, get them before Euro’s or the value for both will be astronomical

      1. Buongiorno is already valued around 45M. That doesn’t take into account his contract. Which leaves 55M for more important positions like striker and DM

  2. If they sell leao or theo or maignan, perhaps they could sign Zirkzee as winger or second striker and Guirassy as CF, to fix attacking area, thus rest of the fund should be allocated to the well needed position in the team.
