Tonali discusses his growth and insists Milan ‘are not afraid’ in top-four race

By Isak Möller -

Milan failed to make the most of Roma’s loss earlier today and their chance to go 2/2 against Napoli this season, losing 0-1 at San Siro. It was another frustrating performance, with little going on in the attacking phase.

The loss means Juventus are now just one point behind, with one game behind, while Atalanta and Napoli are just four and six points behind respectively. Not the result Milan were hoping for, in other words, but they now have to bounce back.

In an interview with Sky Italia (via MilanNews), Sandro Tonali spoke about the game and the result. In our ratings, the midfielder was the one positive as he received a rating of 7/10, the best of the Rossoneri.

On the match…

“Not everything went in our favour, it’s not the match we prepared. We had to do some things and others came out because they were in good shape. This game was messy, we created a few chances but we didn’t make good use of them.”

On the Champions League race…

“We are not afraid, if you are afraid, you lose them all. You have to turn the page and start over, we must aim high, we are there and we must not give up.”

On the personal season…

“I started further back, I had difficulties because I came from a stopped period. I knew that this path was not easy, I’m growing slowly, this is the path. I have to grow game after game and try to have consistency, it’s a fundamental thing for a player.”

On set-pieces…

“These are things that we prepare during the week, they are studied by the coach and the staff. They study us and we study the inactive balls. When Calha is not on the pitch, I take them. I try to do them with the greatest concentration possible, because at the end the dead balls are all opportunities.”

The Rossoneri will take on Man Utd on Thursday evening and they have a slight advantage after the 1-1 draw at Old Trafford, but it won’t be easy. Their next few games in the league are a bit easier, but they need to step up to get the results.
