Tuttosport: Pioli’s Milan without Ibra – key role for Leao and two Primavera promotions

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan boss Stefano Pioli will be forced to see what the Rossoneri are really made of if they are without Zlatan Ibrahimovic for the resumption of the season.

While the full extent of the Swede’s problem will not be known for another 10 days, it is to be presumed that the 38-year-old will not be ready for the resumption of the season and could even miss the remainder of the current campaign depending on how bad his calf issue is.

According to Wednesday’s edition of Tuttosport (via MilanLive), Pioli will stick with the 4-2-3-1 formation to deal with the issue rather than switch system once again.

Rafael Leao will then be the main candidate to replace the Swede, while scenario will also lead to the promotion to the first team of at least two of Daniel Maldini, Riccardo Tonin and Emanuele Pecorino to rebalance everything numerically.

However, it must be highlighted that there is a void. Ante Rebic has scored six league goals since January, while Theo Hernandez has scored five goals all season, and after that there is nothing of note.

That’s why it will be up to players like Samuel Castillejo, Hakan Calhanoglu, Ismael Bennacer and Frank Kessie to start contributing – even perhaps the likes of Lucas Paqueta and Giacomo Bonaventura.
