GdS: From Maignan to Zlatan – when Milan’s five injured players should return

By Oliver Fisher -

After today’s game against Fiorentina, AC Milan will not play another league game until the new year because of the break for the World Cup in Qatar.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Rossoneri squad will fly out to Dubai on December 11 for a warm-weather training camp and there will be some players present that Stefano Pioli has had to do without in this first part of autumn and even before.

Mike Maignan will be there, though he would have liked to be in the Middle East for other reasons, but France coach Didier Deschamps preferred not to risk him. With their starting goalkeeper back, Milan will recover solidity and leadership.

Davide Calabria will be at the training camp and should therefore be back wearing the armband upon the resumption of Serie A action, while Alexis Saelemaekers – who is on Belgium’s reserve list for their World Cup squad – is almost fully recovered and will add an alternative on the right.

January 2023 is circled on Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s calendar as the month and year of yet another new beginning and the trip to Dubai will certainly see him ramp up his recovery work, with the aim of being ready for the trip to face Salernitana on January 4, while Alessandro Florenzi will most likely need until February.
