AC Milan Deadline Day LIVE: Three operations expected to be completed

By Oliver Fisher -

After weeks of speculation and seemingly hundreds of targets linked, at the end of today AC Milan’s squad will be locked in for the period up until the January window.

There have already been some key additions such as Divock Origi, Charles De Ketelaere and Malick Thiaw, but many supporters believe there are still areas that could be addressed before the mercato closes.

The summer transfer window closes at 20:00 CEST tonight, and we at SempreMilan will guide you through the final few hours of it. There is expected to be some late movement too, so sit back, relax and take it all in.

12:54 CEST – Bakayoko silence

We were expecting developments on the loan termination of Tiemoue Bakayoko but things have gone quiet. The latest reports are suggesting that he could either stay or join OGC Nice on deadline day.

12:27 CEST – Other names evaluated

Sergino Dest will sign from Barcelona today to give cover at right-back, but he was one of four options that was evaluated.

12:05 CEST – More medicals

11:52 CEST – Sally stays

Alexis Saelemaekers has attracted the interest of some clubs this summer but he never considered leaving AC Milan, a report claims.

11:45 CEST – Going nowhere

Milan have shut the door on the idea of Rafael Leao joining Chelsea in a last-minute move despite the Premier League club being willing to offer €100m+. Read the latest news here.

11:10 CEST – Dest arrives!

10:43 CEST – Maldini still the man

While this isn’t directly related to deadline day, the takeover happened yesterday and an interesting report has claimed Maldini should have a bit more power on the market and wants one big signing every summer to keep strengthening the team.

10:10 CEST – From Poland with Love

Milan have completed the signing of Dariusz Stalmach from Gornik Zabrze in Poland for the youth sector, it has been confirmed. He is just 16 years old and has already made three senior appearances this season.

09:45 CEST – Bye bye Baka

A third operation could well be done today too as virtually every source is reporting Tiemoue Bakayoko’s two-year loan from Chelsea will be terminated early given his lack of playing time.

09:30 CEST – The Dest is yet to come

Milan should also complete the signing of Sergino Dest from FC Barcelona before the transfer window closes tonight, according to widespread reports. The news broke last night and has been confirmed by various sources. Read the terms of the deal here.

09:10 CEST – Aster arrives

The Rossoneri should announce the signing of Aster Vranckx from Wolfsburg today. The 19-year-old midfielder has touched down in Italy and has begun his medical this morning ahead of what should be a loan with €12m option to buy deal.

09:00 CEST – Good morning!

  1. It turn out the youth exemption for Serie A is not U21 as was reported by GdS (translated by SempreMilan). The exemption ceiling was increased to U22 four years ago.

Credit to Maldini, his focus on signing U22 players (CDK, Thiaw, Vranckx, and Dest) enable Milan to have huge 30-man squad (29 if Bakayoko loan is terminated) to navigate the extremely busy schedule.

    Club Homegrown (3/4)
    Calabria, Gabbia, Pobega

    Italian Homegrown (3/4)
    Mirante, Florenzi, Tonali*

    Unrestricted (17/17)
Maignan, Tatarusanu, Tomori, Kjaer, Theo, Ballo-Toure, Bennacer, Krunic, Bakayoko, Diaz, Messias, Saelemaekers, Leao, Rebic, Ibrahimovic, Giroud, Origi

    U22 (7/infinite)
Kalulu, Thiaw, Dest, Vranckx, CDK, Adli, Lazetic

*Tonali can also use U22 slot

Nb: filling club homegrown or Italian homegrown quota is not mandatory, not filling 2 of these slots means Milan can only register 23 players in the 25-man squad but can still use the 7 unregistered U22 players.

    1. The problem is with UEFA registration list. Noone from the U22 you listed qualifies dor B list for UEFA competitions*, which means that we have 22/17 “unrestricted” players (not counting Ibra and Bakayoko).

5 players will have to be be left out of UCL, for example:
      Lazetic,
      Thiaw,
FBT (might even leave, with Dest as LB cover)
      Diaz/Adli,
      Tatar

(*) Player eligible for UEFA B-list neet to be U21 and playing for the cub for at least 2 years. Unless something changed with those rules.

    2. In addition to Kilroy below, I don’t think Ibra or Baka would be registered until winter or for Baka sent back. The requirement is 8 homegrown players with a max of 4 being association trained. Meaning 4 must be club trained.
As u said: Calabria, Pobega and Gabbia club trained
      Association trained: Florenzi, Mirante, Tonali

So we’re short two IF the 17 are:

      GK: Tata, Maignan
Def: Kululu, Tomori, Kjaer, Theo, Fode
      Mid: Adli, Bennacer, Krunic, (bakayoko),
Att: Giroud, origi, Diaz, salad, leao, Rebic, Messias, (Ibra)

Ibra and Baka would have to not be registered for this to happen. And the other two homegrown players can be from our academy.

CDK, Lazetic and Thiaw are under 21s so they don’t affect this but Dest does as I don’t think he is under 21 (not born after Jan 1 2001). So someone needs to go (thinking Fode) *grabs popcorn*🍿 or else I’m missing something. Did Rebic qualify as association trained during Fiorentina?

  2. M and M are insane bro i call it a mercato honestly eventhough we didnt get RW but we cant get everything in1 year they expanded the squad so much credit to them

  3. Dest is injury prone, you don’t pay €20 million for a backup. Aster stupid name is a total unknown, there’s no one tall and quick in the youth team? They should have stopped at CDK. We have too many slow central midfielders.

    1. Wait, did u just say aster is a stupid name? Wtf lol. The person’s name at birth. Ok with Vranckx, but Aster is stupid? ,😭😭 this place gets weirder by the day😂😂🙂
