CM: When will AC Milan’s injured players return to action?

By Isak Möller -

The injury of Riccardo Montolivo has left Vincenzo Montella short of options in midfield. The likes of Manuel Locatelli and Jose Sosa are set to battle it out to play in the regista role in place of the unlucky Italian playmaker until the January window opens.

Montolivo, however, is not the only injured in AC Milan’s squad and our reporter Federico Albrizio has highlighted when all the injured players will return to the pitch.

MATI FERNANDEZ – He is yet to play his first game with the club as he picked up an injury while on duty with Chile national team, just days after completing a switch to the San Siro outfit last summer. AC Milan have not released an official medical bulletin on him, but sources from the club suggest that Montella might rely on the former Fiorentina ace in 2-3 weeks time.

ANDREA BERTOLACCI – The last medical update on the former Genoa man is dated back to the 22nd of August, when he was reported to have picked up a muscle strain at his left thigh. His recovery time has not been released yet.

MARIO PASALIC – He has some more chances than the Italian midfielder to return to the pitch in the short term. He could get his first call up after the international break.

CRISTIAN ZAPATA – He is also close to return to action after a lengthy lay-off, which however, does not allow Montella to have more option in midfield.

RICCARDO MONTOLIVO – The Italian underwent surgery on Friday, which was successful. The midfielder will be back in 5-6 months time.
