GdS: AC Milan schedule meeting for €30m-rated Atalanta fullback

Conti’s agent Mario Giuffredi, confirmed that a deal had been struck between Milan and the player. Giuffredi said that it would be only a matter of time before we see Conti in a Milan shirt but Atalanta President Antonio Percassi thinks otherwise…

Atalanta President Percassi told Gazzetta Dello Sport that he was astonished by the behaviour of both Milan and Conti’s agent. “Milan and Conti have reached an agreement? They now have to find one with us and in my view, he is worth €30m”.

Percassi continued by criticising Milan’s approach to the deal.

“The player is not for sale, he has a four-year contract with Atalanta. Milan have to first negotiate with us before they talk to the player. I am surprised they handled things differently than they did when we struck a deal with them for Franck Kessié. With Kessié they were more direct with their approach.

“His agent can say all he wants but Conti came through the Bergamo youth system and is in the Italy squad right now. The player can thank Atalanta for that. Of course, we can not compete with Milan financially but if Mirabelli wants the player he has to come talk to us about it.

“He is always welcome to do that, but we will start with the idea that the player is off the market. Contracts are signed by two parties, agents act as third party figures.”

Percassi then went on to threaten to leave the player on the stands. “I doubt Conti will try to force his was to Milan because he does not want to be frozen out for a year. We have behaved well with Conti so I do not know why his agent is saying otherwise (Guiffredi claimed that Percassi promised his client could leave at the end of the season). The fact remains Conti is an Atalanta player.”

Atalanta want €30m for the player, however, Milan won’t budge for more than €20m plus bonuses. The two parties are going to meet in the coming days in an attempt to find a deal that would take Conti to Milan.
